I need help/suggestion for getting out of a funk...

I've been in a serious rut lately. Since I'm a teacher, I'm not working this summer (which has been nice - don't get me wrong), but I'm starting to go stir crazy that I'm not in a routine.

I want to get in the car in 40 minutes and do something or go somewhere for the day.

I live in the city, so I want to get out of here for the day.

What can I do today? I'd love to hear fun little places I can go and see. Uncrowded beaches, cool shopping areas, fun bars, zoos, parks, etc....anything!

Thanks!Chat Icon

Take a drive up to here:

Vanderbilt Museum

Walk around, see how the other half lived.

ETA: and then go to the CIA to eat.

Rockaway Beach in Queens is beautiful if you want to go to the beach Chat Icon I recommend going to 125 St or above parking and walking down the block. It is free and you can park on the street during week days (not on the beach block but on the next block down) and it is not crowded like Jones or LB. Chat Icon

I am off in the summer also so I know where you are coming from Chat Icon

Yay! I'm not the only one who feels the same way! And of course, there's a whole load of stuff to do around the house, but def don't feel like doing those. Actually, just got back from a bike ride since I just wanted to get out.

Hope you found something to do!

I lived in the city and felt that way on weekends all the time. some suggestions:

1. the Cloisters

2. Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, and brooklyn heights, and the brooklyn promenade - get ice cream or chocolate at Jacques Torre

3. Coney Island! we went a few weeks ago and it was totally fun

4. the beach.... I love Pt. Lookout

5. totally agree with the Vanderbilt mansion

6. Go up to Tarrytown - it's such a cute town and not far at all. If you go, check out this little store and buy the truffle basil cheese and lots of yummy other stuff (valrhona chocolate etc.,) and have a picnic in a nearby park Chat Icon http://www.yelp.com/biz/mint-premium-foods-tarrytown

7. Tuxedo Park, Woodbury Commons

8. Bear Mountain State park (I used to drive up by myself a lot and just sit out under a tree and read a book)

9. I am in love with the Hudson Valley. Go to Kykuit
Rockefeller Estate

There is always Central park, east river park (i love the dog run, just watching the dogs play, and i love that it's by the water), bryant park, but i'm guessing you've done all that. Chat Icon
