i need help with a song
as many of you know DSD is turning 16 in january and we are having a big party for her. she is going to slow dance with DH, her Dad. her relationship with DH is weird, BM worked so hard to make him out to be a bad guy and SD is NOT a naturally warm, lovaeable kid. I'm sure some of you with SDs know what I mean about their relationship. So she's trying to figure out a song to dance with him to, and most of the common father daughter songs are too mushy or they talk about a traditional married parent situation, which she thinks is "akward" KWIM? Have you heard any songs that you think would be appropriate for this dance?
so far the only thing i can come up with is "somewhere over the rainbow" but I'm not sure about what version. tia

Re: i need help with a song
My ss and I danced to My Wish by Rascall Flatts at his wedding. When he heard me singing it to my gs it brought tears to his eyes and said it was "our song" but that he'd share it with his son. There was also a post recently with a video of a father / daughter danced where they did a combination of songs. What about each picking 3 songs and having the DJ combine them?

We danced at my wedding (father/daughter) to Louie Armstrong - what a wonderful world. It kept the awkward-ness out for us too

Re: i need help with a song
"My Wish" is a good idea. Or what about "In my Life" by the Beatles or "I'll Be There"?

Re: i need help with a song
Would it be weird if DH picked the song? He loves" my little girl" tim mcgraw, SD said she's ok with him picking the song

Re: i need help with a song
My dad danced with my sister to Three Times a Lady on her wedding day. Thanks for the times That you've given me The memories are all in my mind And now that we've come To the end of our rainbow There's something I must say out loud You're once, twice Three times a lady Yes you're once twice Three times a lady
And I love you When we are together The moments I cherish With every beat of my heart To touch you to hold you To feel you to need you There's nothing to keep us apart You're once twice Three times a lady And I love you I love you
I like I hope you dance Hope You Dance lyrics
I hope you never lose your sense of wonder, You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger, May you never take one single breath for granted, GOD forbid love ever leave you empty handed, I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean, Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens, Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance, And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.
I hope you dance....I hope you dance.
I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance, Never settle for the path of least resistance Livin' might mean takin' chances, but they're worth takin', Lovin' might be a mistake but it's worth makin', Don't let some hell bent heart leave you bitter, When you come close to sellin' out reconsider, Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance, And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.
I hope you dance....I hope you dance. I hope you dance....I hope you dance. (Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along, Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder where those years have gone.)
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean, Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens, Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance, And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.
Dance....I hope you dance. I hope you dance....I hope you dance. I hope you dance....I hope you dance.. (Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder where those years have gone)

Re: i need help with a song
at my wedding, I danced with my stepdad to a Billy Joel version of, When You Wish Upon a Star..
His first date with my mom was to a Billy Joel concert and it wasn't a traditional father/daughter song, so we thought it was perfect.

I danced with Chelsea to this at my wedding to Cindy. Not a dry eye in the house.
In My Daughter's Eyes
In my daughter's eyes I am a hero I am strong and wise and I know no fear But the truth is plain to see She was sent to rescue me I see who I wanna be In my daughter's eyes
In my daughter's eyes everyone is equal Darkness turns to light and the world is at peace This miracle God gave to me gives me strength when I am weak I find reason to believe In my daughter's eyes
And when she wraps her hand around my finger Oh it puts a smile in my heart Everything becomes a little clearer I realize what life is all about
It's hangin' on when your heart has had enough It's giving more when you feel like giving up I've seen the light It's in my daugter's eyes
In my daughter's eyes I can see the future A reflection of who I am and what will be Though she'll grow and someday leave Maybe raise a family When I'm gone I hope you see how happy she made me For I'll be there In my daughter's eyes
I danced with my dad to that song at my wedding no a dry eye in the house either.... It a wonderful song, and now since i have 2 daughters has whole different meaning..
