I need Help with Abby ( long)
Long story, but here it is...
Abby sleeps in the bed with us at night. She is too small to get on the bed, so we have the Doggy Steps to the bed.
At night, we move the Steps away from the bed....we started this when she was a puppy and started sleeping with us, b/c if not she would just get down and run after the cats all night or bark under the bed.
So....what happens now is that she sometimes has to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. She will wake us by standing on us, whimpering.
BUT....she will not go down the stairs and to the bathroom by herself.
DH used to "Walk" her to the bathroom which is " the pee pee pad in the kitchen" and then back to the bed, so he could remove the Steps after her so she couldnt get down at will....
Now...shes bigger, its FINE to let her just go...she goes on the pads exclusively...but its like shes trained to wait for one of us to get up and follow her....so she will literally stop half way there and WAIT for us and then go and then run back into the bed... If we dont follow her, she will wimper and bark for us to follow her.....
This is making me crazy.
I am having a baby in less then 2 week sand the thought of getting up in the middle of the night for the baby AND the dog who uses a wee wee pad is driving me nuts...LOL
How do you UNTRAIN a dog?
Sorry so long...

yep...Last night, I was refusing to get up and she literally was running around like a crazy freak in the hallway, to the kitchen entrance, back to the bedroom and whining and whimpering, like she was gonna pee right there...after like 10 minutes, I felt sooo bad that she sounded in pain, that I finally got up and she ran to the pad, went soooo fast and boom ran back to bed.

Re: I need Help with Abby ( long)
could you put a pad in the hall where she will go at night only and then move it slowly back to the kitchen?
I dont know if that will mess her up during the day, but might be worth a try.
