I need Kitten tips!
Maggie is my first pet that I got as a baby- (I adopted crokey at 7)
so this is all new to me- but not to DH- he just blames everything on her being a baby- which is great- but I want her to grow up to be a good cat- and not attack a human baby that we have
last night- she was climbing up the bed- and mistook my eye lid for the next step- needless to say I was bleeding and my eye is swollen and it hurts
I think she scracthed crokey last week- b/c he has a double eye infection now
any tips on teaching her to behave alittle better- she lost crokey as a friend- he wants nothing to do with her now - when he used to treat her as his child
I really don't know what to do with her!

Re: I need Kitten tips!
I would clip her nails regularly...and add some scratching trees/toys for her to work her aggression out on.

Re: I need Kitten tips!
definitely get plenty of scratching posts and toys for the kitten to play with. Clip them regularly.
Other than that, these are things that kittens do. But the good news is that they grow out of it. My 2 cats get along very well together, but they still show up with scratches here and there when they rough house.

Definitely get a scratching post. Don't let her play with you by biting and scratching, its ok if she does his with her toys, but not with your hands, legs, or other body parts. I think the best way to do this is to make sure she has plenty of toys. Kittens are playful!
Your older cat didn't try to teach her a lesson when she swatted at him? I would think he'd put her in her place. If he ignores her she'll probably get the message... I am sure they will get along just fine when she grows out of this phase.

Definately get a scratching post, maybe with a toy attached to it, if you can (if you have room & extra $$) get her one of the scratch post/ cat tree's.
Also clip her little claws, it is easy to do and if you start now she'll get used to it, you can get the clippers at any pet store.
Also a few cat toys, it is just a stage, she will calm down and start to sleep 18 hours a day!
Just be grateful it's not your legs she's climbing up (or the curtains!)

she climbs the curtains, the bamboo blinds, the candle sticks
she has toys and scratching post- and I have a freaking black eye!
I hate to reward her- but I will buy her some new stuff this week
my older cat does "put her in her place" but she thinks it more playing!

Re: I need Kitten tips!
When our cat was only a kitten, his claws would grow so fast, and those little buggers were SHARP. They'd pierce everything.
We clipped his nails pretty often when he was a kitten; the vet showed us how to do it the right way. But now that he's bigger and older, we take him the the groomer to get them done.
As for the climbing, she'll get over that too. Our kitten would climb anything and everything. He used to treat the drying racks for our wet clothes as his own personal jungle gum. Eventually he got to heavy to climp up. Now he just jumps up to where he wants to be.
I'm sorry about your eye. I hope it's healing by now.
