I need motivation/advice
I dont know whats going on .. I was up to running 5 miles and even though it was hard I would be okay doing it. Then I took a little time off and now Im struggling at 3 miles.
How can i get it back. Its taking me 33 minutes to just run 3 miles. Terrible
Im training for my first 10k and I feel so discouraged. HELP PLEASE.

Try not to get discouraged. This is normal. Any time you take off will set you back a little. You'll get that back in no time. In the mean time just focus on getting your mileage back up slowly. Training times don't count. Your training runs should be slower. If you push yourself too hard you'll end up like me at physical therapy twice a week!! Just get that mileage back up and don't pay attention to your time. The speed will come back as you increase your mileage again.

Thanks Col, how are you feeling? Did you decide to do the half?

No problem If you ever need advice or motivation FM me any time!
Knee is okay- PT is helping. I decided against the half. I don't want to have to push myself to feel fully trained by May 1st. There are plenty of other halfs this year I can do. I may or may not do the 10k instead, depending how soon I heal.

Thanks youre the best.
Get better soon so we can eventually run something together! Im running the NYC Mini 10K in June if you want to do that one. You'll kill me as far as time goes so we'd have to meet beforehand. haha

If I'm healed I might just take you up on that! I haven't run in so long I have no idea what times would look like. My dad since I had previously gotten decently fast it would be easier to build it back up. So who knows what times I'll be looking at. I just can't wait to get back out there and start running. Even if its slower than what I was used to!

Re: I need motivation/advice
Do some intervals where you run fast for a minute or two and then walk one minute and keep going like that for 25-30 minutes. The short bursts will help you build stamina.

I agree! Short, high intensity intervals really are helpful with building speed.

Re: I need motivation/advice
I'm in the same boat as you--I took a few weeks "off" (I was still running just not with the same frequency or intensity) and I'm finding it incredibly hard to get back. I'm training for my first half in May.
I'm finding that forcing myself to go is helping me. Even when I don't want to, just getting back out there is making me feel better about myself/my running.
I'm also finding that if I focus on distance, not speed right now that it's easier. It may take me forever, but I'm doing my 4 mile weekday runs. Maybe focus less on the speed and more about the distance? Then use the interval training to work back up to your previous speed?
hope that helps! Let me know if you figure something better out!
