I need opinions on Christmas Dresses...

Last year my sister ordered this dress for Emily for Christmas. She ordered the same one for her daughter, and while Emily did already have another dress that she wore for pictures my sister wanted them to wear this one on Christmas day. Emily never ended up wearing it because we came down with a horrible stomach virus.

Now we are looking for dresses for this year, and my sister really wants us to use this dress. She thinks it's so cute (and I do agree) and was disappointed that Emily never wore it. The problem is is that I kinda think it looks too young for Emily. Not like I'm trying to make her grow up too fast, I just think she is a toddler now and I think of it as a baby dress. It will more then likely still fit her since she hasn't grown too much (just in height) but I feel like she'll look like too much of a baby in it.

I don't know what to do. Do I somewhat offend my sister by not having her wear it, and get her another dress? I feel like I'll be wasting my sister's money also. But I'm really not crazy about it, this year.

Plus her daughter took her christmas pics in it last year and I feel like the family will think we're wearing my niece's hand-me-downs and can't afford our own dress, even though it's a different dress, they each had their own ones, I think it'll be what they assume since we have less money then my sister.

OH, I'm thinking about this way too much! I'd appreciate your opinions!

Melissa

I think it's a cute dress. Looks like something my BF's daughter would wear... she's 3 and only wears dresses... girly-girl.

I agree, it doesn't look like many of the baby Christmas dresses, and seems more for a toddler.

DDs have that dress with the matching tights. I think its so cute. Chat Icon

As for them thinking its a hand-me down, I don't think anyone will remember. I can't even remember what I wore, nevermind another family member.

I think what really matters is your sister and her feelings and not really the dress - I would have your DD wear it and make your sister happy. Because in the end that's what really matters.

Can you get her another dress for Christmas Eve? Or have her wear this one for Christmas Eve?

Yes, it is a hanna anderson dress. Maybe it looks like a toddler dress because the pic is of a bigger size ---- I actually like this hanna dress WAY more...

Maybe I can have her wear the dress from my sister when the family gets together and get something else for her pictures.

Wouldn't your daughter wear the baby version of the dress, like such? It's a lot cuter than the toddler version!

I've been eyeing the same dress for my DD the last few days. Chat Icon

eta: Sorry, you're trying not to look babyish. I think it's a cute dress for pictures anyway!

My DD just wore that dress for pictures. I think it would look cute on a toddler though. Like you said maybe wear it for the family GTG & then get a separate dress for pictures.

My DD wore this dress last year as a newborn. I love it, esp with the tights!!!Chat Icon

But honestly you need to like it. My mom hated the dress I picked out this year, but she's my DD and I got what I wanted. If you like the other one better, I would just wear that one.

Do you do xmas eve and xmas? or if you are doing pics maybe do an outfit change and get some pictures of her in it so you don't completely insult her?

I am on the fence about the dress. I agree with you that it might be a bit babish. What about dressing her in the dress for Christmas Eve and find something you want for Christmas. It looks like you want something more dressier anyway so that is a good way to go around it.

I say pick another dress.

while I love the dress and it is really cute, YOU have to be happy with it. Pick another dress. If you have a function in the winter, she could wear the other dressChat Icon It's snowflakes, not like it's christmas trees or something.
