I need paint and decorating help (pics)
So here are pictures of the house we are buying. The paint colors that are in there are awful IMO but I am not that good at choosing paint colors so if anyone has input that would be great. This is not our furniture.
Front (so you can get an idea of house style)
LR/DR Combo...the room goes further back. I was thinking of a taupe color with a darker color to accent in the window area
Family Room (vaulted ceilings so probably not going to pain this room plus it kind of shares a wall with the EIK are) but decor ideas are welcome
Kitchen ( I am thinking of doing a darker red color) We will be changing out the appliances to either stainless or black
Thanks!! I am awful at decorating.

Well, for the livingroom and family room I would need to know what your furniture and area rugs if applicable look like.
Most designers will take the fabric from a couch, chari or area rug and coordinate everything from there. I did this in my old house. My DH had an old area rug in the livingroom that was predominantly blue and orange. I pulled the orange out which was really a pumpkin color and painted the walls that color.
Can you post pics of your current furniture?

With the living room, I would paint the whole wall with the window a different color, not just the area that is paitned currently. I know the colors are bad now, but it makes the wall look weird.
If you paint that whole wall a different color than the room, it would still make it a focal point, and you'd notice the window, not the weird area around the window.

Here is a picture of the DR furniture and I actually have the buffet that goes with it (these are old pictures).
As for the front part of the LR/DR combo I am undecided at to what I am going to do because I don't really want to put a whole couch set in there since we have a family room and a finished basement. I was thinking of maybe just buying some nice chairs so I am open as far as that goes.
Here is a picture of the table that will be in the EIK and the wine rack. Eventually I would like to replace this as well. Do you think dark red/brick will be OK in the kitchen for now? In time I want to gut the whole kitchen and do new cabinets, floor, etc.

DH had that SAME dining room set! I personally LOVE red on the walls. In our old house, I did a sort of brick red in the family room. Everyone that came over loved it. I think it'd look great in that kitchen, esp with that color wood and the new stainless appliances.

You mean the lighter wood in the new house would be OK with red? b/c that pic is the house we are in now.

Yup. With that sliding glass door there, lots of light would come in, so you wouldn't have a dark gloomy kitchen. And dark wood plus dark wall color would be too much IMO, but the lighter wood in the new house would look good with a dark red.

The part that is yellow, as well as the part that is orange, shoud be the same color as each other. they could be the same or differnce than the rest of the room. You could keep the yellow part a different color than the surrounding orange part, the underneathe the window part looks off balance, b/c above the window is orange.
If there waa window seat, I woudl say paint the inset a different color than the rest of the wall, btu paint the window seat the same color as thw outer wall , so the color above & below the window would be the same.
I tried to find a picture, but I couldn't. Maybe I am wrong & maybe it will ook fine with 2 colors if they aren' t orange & yellow!

BM has a good combo in the taupe family - the darker color is Rustic Taupe and the lighter color is Baja Dunes (?)

I don't know where to get BM paint our here. We ususally got to Home Depot. I picked some Ralph Lauren colors I like and also some by Behr. (we're in CO).

I see what you're saying. I am planning on putting some kind of furniture in that window area so maybe that would help if it was its own color just a shade darker? I feel like it would be hard to get a straight line because our walls are textured out here.

Here is a picture of a similar window, all one color. I agree, if the colors are closer together, and there is furniture, it could work.

Re: I need paint and decorating help (pics)
Congratulations! I think you should do all trim in white, stark white! Then definately for the main livingroom/diningroom area do a nice beige. Beige with the white is beautiful. For the family room, I have Nantucket Grey and it just blends so well with beige. It's a sage/grey color. Our white moldings look amazing against it. Plus, I think since you are looking at a red, those colors would blend well for you. In my opinion, I probably would put a TV, if you are planning to, not on that main wall like they have it, probably on the opposite wall facing the window. Breaks up the focal point since that's what you see when you walk in there. Good luck decorating!
