I need some camera-education!
What should I look for in a good camera? (point & shoot)
How do I know how quick it will fire a shot?
Are the MP that important? What's a decent video. Zoom?
I am looking at the Canon Powershot Elphs....BUT there are so many models.
I want to keep it at or <$250
TIA!!M

The megapixels have a relationship to how large you can print, and detail of resolution. Today's cameras have plenty for printing 4x6, 8x10, etc. Don't go crazy over MP in a point & shoot. My old 20D DSLR only has 8mp and I can print larger images. Most P&S cameras have more than that.
Zoom - pay attention to the Optical Zoom- that zooms in the lens. Digital zoom just enlarges a portion of the picture and quality is reduced. It will look closer, but all you're doing is cropping and enlarging in the camera, you can do that later with software.
I don't pay attention to video functions so I can't help you there.
As to how fast it can fire a shot I suggest that you check out the reviews but any P&S will have "lag time" and even a fraction of a second can miss the moment. You need to upgrade to a DSLR if you want to eliminate the lag time.
