I need some help, regarding acid reflux formula
Hi,
DS is 6 weeks old. He has been fussy for a few weeks now, but the last two days were HELL. I was going out of my mind about to cry along with him.
He doesn't often spit up but the ped. said it could be AR as sometimes the acid rises and burns the throat without actual spit up.
Anyone find the AR formula helped? The one thing though, is he's prone to constipation ...i would think that the thicker formula would make this a lot worse. How did you deal with it?
Thank you in advance, any answers/advice is appreciated.

Re: I need some help, regarding acid reflux formula
My son is on Zantac for AR which helps w/the burning but does nothing for spitting up/choking on it. But he is less squirmy and not screaming in pain anymore. I don't have any advice on the constipation since we had the exact opposite problem (chronic diarrhea) due to milk allergy! He is on Nutramigen for that and does well with it. Honestly it will SLOWLY get better - I thought I would lose it at 6 weeks but little by little he's getting better. Maybe you can ask your Dr. and try another formula or antacid?

Dd is also on zantac, we tried a bunch of different formulas and she does really well with enfamil lactose free. I know the lactose free has nothing to do with reflux, but everyone told me to try it and we did and it worked.

Re: I need some help, regarding acid reflux formula
Like yours, DD is very prone to constipation with formula and has acid reflux. She isn't a big spit up girl, but the acid backs up in her throat, i can hear it sometimes.
SHe was on pepcid-which didn't work very well and has been on prevacid since july and is doing sooo well.
I was bf'ing with formula supplementation with Similac advance powder. She's been full formula for 2 months.
GOod luck! Hang in there, it will be better

I don't have any suggestions, but know how hard it can be when they won't stop screaming. Just wanted to give you some !

I'm so sorry - I feel your pain, I went through the same with DD.
My DD is on Zantac - which helps a lot - and also Similac ALimentum. Its a little more $ but SO worth it and makes a HUGE difference. We tried SO many formulas (upon our peds suggestion) to help with the a/r and this was the only one that worked for us.

He is on enfamil lactose free..has been for weeks. I truly do not think the lactose is the problem after all I read about it...but I don't quite know that its acid reflux..its so hard to know!! I just know he is cranky a LOT lately and I feel so bad not knowing the problem.

Just a little FYI from what Ive gone through with switching formulas...my ped said I should see a change w/in a few days...if you're DS has been on it for wks and he's not better it's time to swicth formulas. Maybe ask your ped about the SImilac Alimentum or Enfamil Nutramigen (which is pretty much the same thing). Its a little more money but IMO so worth it.

Re: I need some help, regarding acid reflux formula
DD is on Zantac and Nutramigen. She seems to be getting better but am not sure if its because of the formula switch or the zantac. DD was very constipated early on (she is now 4 1/2 months) and we switched to Ready-to-Use formula. It's more expensive but seemed to make a difference within a couple of days. Ped doesn't have an explaination for the difference but said if it works - do it. May be worth a try. Hang in there, it can be tough when DC isn't feeling well.
