I need some help urgently...please do not move to travel board!!!!
Okay, I am going to try to make a long story short. I am in Florida on a lovely holiday in the sun and I am in need of some urgent advice from a travel agent or someone who works in the travel industry. Keep in mind that making a long story short is not my strong point...so here goes.
Got here 3 March and my son was sick sick sick through most of the trip, started off with a double ear infection and ended up with Chicken Pox, diagnosed on Thursday...supposed to leave on Saturday morning...can't fly for 5 days, that takes us up to Tuesday...trying to get home on Wednesday. We went to the airport try to change our paper tickets and were told to go home, travel chaos due to storms etc etc. Keeping in mind that all through this I have a seriously ill and contagious 14 month old (and seriously cute, although slightly spotty) So now, I have to book into another hotel (done, laid out $1200 for that) Keep the rental car for a few more days (done, laid out $400 for that (including insurance...) Doctors offices and stuff (done laid out like $150 for that including medicines non itch stuff etc) Phone calls on my cell phone back to England (done, god only knows how much that is going to cost.)
NOW, the good news is that my travel insurance is going to cover most of that. They will also cover one parent staying, but my husband has also stayed on so I wasn't alone. My parents and sister have gone back up to NY and my only family down here are my 92 year old Grandma and my mom's best friend who has never had the chicken pox.
So if you are still reading this, you rule. I always said that long story short wasn't my style.
So the predicament that we are in is that our original tickets were US Airways, the original flight was cancelled...now you can not get a hold of ANYONE at US Airways on the phone for love nor money, we have spent HOURS on hold, not to mention going down to the airport. They are still trying to clear the backlog of travellers from the weekend. We can buy a new set of tickets but that is going to cost us around $2500, and I believe we will only get part of that back from our travel insurance.
So what I am looking to find out is if anyone here works in the Travel industry can help me, I can give you a call maybe, you can give me some advice on how I can get home without spending a few mortgage payments???
Can I just turn up at the airport on Wednesday show them my tickets and hope they get me on a plane back to England? Is that too risky? Anyone have any really great advice???
Keeping in mind that we are at a fancy hotel on the beach in Deerfield, its not all bad, but I do have to get home to get back to work sometime before the end of the months!!!
