I need to vent. VERY LONG, I warn you!

Ok, I don't know how to explain this, but I'll do it as simply as possible. I rent a music studio from my friend, but I have to share it two days a week with a piano teacher because I can't afford to rent it for the whole week. So I am there 4 days a week, and the piano teacher is there 2. We recently moved to a much nicer studio, and I was happy that we would be able to divide the room a little better, as she had her stuff ALL OVER our previous room since she had been renting there first. Fine. Lovely. We move our stuff in on different days and I come in the day after she moved her stuff over. She had the BALLS to put STICKY NOTES where she wanted everything. No consulting me, nothing. Two walls said "LINDAS WALLS" and one, small, itty, bitty one said "RACHEL'S CORNER". So, now I was FUMING over this. THEN, I see on her CHAIR, her stupid rolling, office chair, a sign that says, "DO NOT SIT IN MY CHAIR". Now I'm like, GIVE ME AN F-ing BREAK.
So, I go in today to move some more things and what not, and ALL of my stuff is PILED into a little corner, and her crap is all over again. So resisting the urge to break everything that belongs to her, I sat and wrote her a note that went accordingly:
Hi Linda!
The room is coming along nicely! :) I moved your things back to your half of the room, as I will be needing the space. I still have furniture on the way, and as I'm sure you can relate, must maximize wall space. Also, if you can think of anything that we need for the room, let me know, as I think it would be a good idea to maybe split the cost of these items, instead of having two of everything. Please do not hesitate to call if any issues arise, as I am ALWAYS willing to work with you to better our studio.

Ok, so that's what I wrote, but here's the thing...this b!tch just does not stop. My friend has threatened to kick her out and she still doesn't stop. The problem is, we need her there for the rent, so we can't kick her out. I'm just really frustrated that this woman won't even TALK to me AND she keeps putting her grimey paws on all my things Thanks for letting me vent.

What a Bi@tch! Sorry you have to deal with her garbage. Hopefully you two will be able to work something out to share the space fairly.

secondly: that note you wrote her is PERFECT!!!! Hopefully she'll get the subtle hint that you deserve space too, and back off into her own little pathetic corner!! Please keep us posted on her reaction to the note!!

I can't believe the nerve of some people. You might want to remind her that you pay rent for the studio also and that if she continues to take over the majority of the space her side of the rent will go up accordingly.

i would tell the b!tch to back off and stop touching your stuff that you pay for the rent also and she does not have the right to touch your stuff i would say if you are going to touch my stuff there will be trouble and maybe the rent should go up ON her.

I would confront her face to face. People have very different reactions when put on the spot. I think what you wrote was perfectly worded, though.

Great letter. Hope she gets the hint; if not maybe your friend who owns the studio can remind her that it is shared space and should be considerate of others who use it as well.

Good note- last year I had a similar situation with a person I had to share an office with. Unfortunately I just had to clench my teeth and deal with it. I hope you're able to figure something out.

Do you know anyone who may want to rent studio space with you? Then your friend could kick her out.

That is a good note....hopefully she will stop her nastiness and learn to share. If not you should quietly look for someone else to rent the space ASAP!

Thanks for the responses. I already know I need to sit down with her and my friend and we all need to go over what the deal is. I keep trying to catch her on her days that she teaches, but she claims she does not take a break. WHATEVER. And I don't want to have a phone conversation with her. I want her to try and have the same set of balls to my face, which I know she won't. This all goes back to last year when I started renting the studio, and she had these Jesus posters up, and I felt it was inappropriate to have in a non-religious teaching space. I'm talking pamphlets, posters, pictures, etc. And my friend TOLD HER to take them down, adn she won't. And I've had parents complain to me about it. So my friend took them down...but low and behold, the other chick put them back up again. But my friend who owns the studio is bad with confrontation, so she let it go. I just took them all down when I would teach and hide all the paphlets. It's fine if that's what you believe in, but it's not the appropriate place for her propaganda. So, anyway, now she thinks I'm the devil.

wow she is really going too far!! And I assume that since you use the space 4 days a week and she only uses it for 2 that she pays less then you??? Even if she dosent you use the space more!!!!

Maybe you should hang a curtain in the middle of the room. You could push it to the side when your students come and close it when you know she will be there the next day. Then there is an actual barrier to the room. OR you could figure out how much your rent is and the square footage of the space, then ascribe a dollar amt to each square foot and tell her she has to pay by sq footage she is using. Complicated but should get your point across.

I agree...if she wants more space then she needs to pay more rent!!!!
