I need your help with safety question regarding crib/bumpers
DH and I finally found a crib that we both really like. We went and ordered it last night. As soon as we left the store I got really nervous, maybe the whole baby thing became a reality or maybe I am reading to much. But here is my concern. Below is the crib. They had our bedding there as well. Because of the solid pieces in the front and back and the thick corners is is hard to tie the bumbers tight and flush to the crib. Now my concern is that this crib isnt safe with the bumpers. My mom tells me that the crib will be around longer than the bumpers so stick with the crib and worry about the bumper issue when the time comes. She also said I could take the bumpers to a seamstress and have them remove the original ties and add longer ones. So should I switch cribs (we have a 2nd pick that doesnt have the solid pieces in the front) or should I just stop worrying and deal with in when the time comes.

Personally, I don't think that crib bumpers are safe full stop, but lots of people have them. They aren't a necessity. If you love the crib, get it, just make everything else work around it.

I wouldn't switch cribs if you love that one, just take out the bumpers -- they aren't necessary. We never used them, and yes my daughter ended up with a bruise once not a big deal compared to being nervous all the time!

Def get the crib you want and get the breathable bumpers. They work fantastic. I will never get another bumper again.

We have the same style crib. My mother made my bumpers with extra long ties at the ends so that I could tie them to the thick pieces of wood. You could get ribbon that matches your bumpers and sew them so that they can tie around too. I prefer the bumpers...my DD is like an acrobat in her crib.

I would keep the crib, and either have no bumpers, or at least the breathable bumpers.

Re: I need your help with safety question regarding crib/bumpers
While I agree with all the pp about getting the crib you like and not worrying about the bumpers, why can't you use regular bumbers with this one You can still tie the bumpers to the smaller slats.
Nice crib btw

Thanks! The ties arent long enough to go around the 4 corners, the wood is too thick. Then the other ties dont line up with the smaller slats. They fall right where the thicker slats are.

Re: I need your help with safety question regarding crib/bumpers
I wouldn't use the bumpers at all. I would also be concerned with having long strings in the crib. I'm not sure what the length is, but after a certain length of chord, it becomes a choking hazard, since they could get it wrapped around their neck.
Factory-length ties are safer than longer ties. No bumpers are potentially safer then bumpers. There's really no need for them. Billions of babies throughout the years have done just fine without bumpers. It's really more of an aesthetics thing. Bumpers aren't that much of a cushion anyway. If they hit the edges hard enough to cause a bruise, half an inch of loose padding isn't going to do anything....

I agree!!!! Many times Paige would end up face in the bumpers and it scared the living $hit out of me. I bought these the other day and i feel much better, plus they are velcro and fit so much better in the crib.
