I now work in a huge place, and there is something I notice about large offices...

I went from working with 5 people in our place to a huge office FULL or people...

and, everyone is OBSESSED with eating!!!

what is up with that? The topic of the day is "We are ordering something - what do you want?" it's like Christmas hits every morning at 10.

And then when the food comes, there is this huge gathering, who ordered what, where is my [ this,] wait, was Alice the one who ordered [ that...] - it goes on for 45 minutes before they all sit down and eat... and then as they are eating they all sit and talk about Weight Watchers....

Its so funny...

and then, there's this one heavy middle aged woman, and I swear to God - every time I pass her desk, she is eating. The woman eats ALL day!!! Its so bizarre!!!

I have entered the twilight zone of food!!!

yes, I remember those days.

Soon you will learn to live for meetings, Holiday times, left over of Halloween, etc.... Whoever works in an office knows what I am talking about.

And if someone shows off with a box of donuts..... man, you will talk about it the whole day and tell all the next day if they were not there.

OMG, I could have written this. At my previous job, they used to talk about the "freshman 15," as in, anyone new who started and wasn't used to all the food packed it on in the first few months. If you had an "in" with the receptionists, they'd call you to let you know when the "vulture food" was available in conference rooms when meetings ended. It must be something about the corporate environment...

just wait until a celebration.... and doughnuts are brought in for breakfast... Early morning sugar rush, hoarding, and STILL they'll be thinking about lunch at 10am....

The worst is when someone who is "trying to lose weight" orders burger and fries every day, then complains that she can't lose any weight

Don't even get me started on the chip eaters. Nothing worse than passing by a cubicle and seeing someone with a bag of chips in their face. And I work in a corporate office...doesn't look very professional when you're licking cheetos off your fingers

See I'm the opposite. I moved from a super large office to a small office and in my small office lunch is THE topic of the day. And birthdays kill me! Last week we had 3 cakes! I've tried to restart my diet twice since working for this new company and I haven't been successful yet.

My office is pretty small but it's the same way with the constant food. let's put it this way...someone on the office owns a bakery!

Totally the same in my office. When I do go in, the first thing my coworkers ask is "are you doing lunch today"

And if the execs have a meeting and order in (i.e, have it catered!), when the meeting is over and the leftovers are put in the kitchen, you have to see everyone come out of their cubicle and raid what ever is left! It's like a free for all with food!

Same here with us: the girls that sit on he other side of the cube wall from us are constantly talk about ordering food and where they ate and how their lunch was. Unfortunately, they are very much burger and pizza kind of girls SO the conversations are not very interesting or pallet whetting

the other day one of them said to the other that she almost tried a piece of eel sushi and the second one replied that she certainly does care for fish, or sushi or anything that is not thoroughly cooked... that's basically how their conversations go every day.

The 2 girls in my departments are my type of people: different flavors different cuisines. Just listening to their conversations gets me in the mood to eat great things!

Oh, and the eating all day things.. yeah... but even more so it is the drinking all day that gets me: soda, soda, soda... this one woman drinks lemon lime soda ALL.DAY.LONG! I mean , I have NEVER seen her without a can of that cr*p in her hand...

ETS: I was thinking that the day I leave ethis job I will come up to her with a glass of water with lemon, hand it to her and just leave... introduce her to a new concept of sorts...

I worked for a big finance company, that had a full cafeteria that was free to all employees you can only imagine. top notch meals, breakfast lunch and snack.
snack time was 3pm.

you've never seen a line of stockbrokers lined up like kids in a candy store (especially if the snack was brownies, hot out of the oven!) and then they had a fixins bar for all the details.
and the menu was online, so of course we knew all the options from like 8am, loll.

everything from soup to ice cream to coffees of all kinds, sandwiches, etc.

the guys in my dept had towers of small cereal boxes at their desks

and when we booked meetings, we had a program where we could order anything for the meeting, cookies, ice cream, coffee, you name it..

I miss that job

ooo yes... I used to work (pre DS) for a HUGEEEEEEEEEE company, anyhow food was everywhere, half of it free...needless to say I gained 8 lbs my first month there!

The department that sits across my room has an average weight of 160 lbs and consists mostly of women. Now, I don't want to come off as insensitive, but as someone else mentioned, if someone is trying to lose weight, ordering Chinese and/or eating hot dogs at 10 AM, is NOT the way to go about achieving that. Also the soda and snacks in between lunch doesn't help either. Don't worry though, they've got diet sodas.

I know what you mean!!! We do that here at my job! It's not a big office there are only about 10 of us but the lunch order has to be decided on by 11am esp if it is Chinese or the tellers freakout!
There is always food around to munch on too.

My office is to blame for the 20lbs of the 50lbs I gained while pregnant. Especially because everyone was like oh no, I can't have that. Eat up, pregoo! And I did.

i work in a drs office and we have it the worst.. (or the best depending how you look at it)
free catered breakfast and lunch usually every day mon through thurs courtesy of the drug reps who want literally a minute to talk to our doctors...

but the upside i lost 15 lbs since i started working there (i dont like the food half the time b/c i dont eat sandwichs and stuff) but i load up on liek chicken marsala liek its going out of style
