I paid all this money for a nice crib.....
and Zach refuses to sleep in it. We had to have him sleeping sitting up for a while due to congestion/reflux and we created a monster out of it. He will only sleep in his car seat at night He is going to be 3 months on Saturday and I have been trying to get him to start sleeping in the crib (on a crib wedge). He won't do it. We are starting with naps. Sometimes he will go a little while in there but most of the time, he has the look of fear while in there. What can I do to get him to sleep in there? He won't fit in the car seat forever
Any BTDT advice? Thanks.

Hang in there. Keep trying it and try to get him in there while he is stil awake. Do you have any toys, like a mirror for him?

Re: I paid all this money for a nice crib.....
Caden had to sleep on an incline due to reflux you could just tell that laying flat was uncomfortable for him..
One day he just decided that laying flat in his bassinet was the way to go..before that he would cry and cry...
just keep at it he'll learn to love his crib.

Re: I paid all this money for a nice crib.....
My dd slept in her carseat until she was 4 months. Before that it was her bouncy seat Anway, in the beginning of March she started waking all the time at night so we decided if she's going to wake in her carseat, might as well get her in her crib. Also, I knew she could sleep flat because she had no problem doing it when she slept next to me in bed. It might be hard to break the habit, but I say do it now and not later.

Re: I paid all this money for a nice crib.....
For the first six weeks of life, my DD woudl only sleep if someone was holding her. Then we transitioned to teh car seat and she slept in that until 14 weeks. Then we transitioned to teh crib one night. That is all it took! I was amazed but it worked. She also has acid reflux.

Re: I paid all this money for a nice crib.....
When my DS was little and if I put him down into his craddle after eating he would spit up. So I read to have him in an upright position for at least 30 minutes, which as a newborn BFing I was up soooooo much during the night but I guess better that then him spitting up tons.
So I always had him in his bouncer for 30 minutes then transitioned him to his craddle?
Did you try doing that with your DC? Try to transition him from the carseat after you know he is sound asleep and see if he'll sleep in his crib.

Why don't you put the carseat in the crib at night so he gets used to it and then slowly take away the carseat for small amounts of time?

Re: I paid all this money for a nice crib.....
wow I feel so much better now i'm not the only one with this problem. DD is 2 months old and still sleeping in her car seat, we have been doing the car seat in her crib for about 2 weeks now and I am going to make the push today to take it out... we will see how it goes!! I'm picking today because DH is off tomorrow so if I need help tonight with her (she sleeps much better at night when she's had naps during the day) he will be able to stay up with me to help. Good luck and I'll let you know how the car seat in the crib works!

Re: I paid all this money for a nice crib.....
same here!! DS is 16 weeks, still sleeps in his carseat 90% of the time (reflux).
We do have him sleeping in the crib for naps sometimes, and I now have the carseat inside the crib every night, so he is technically "In" his crib.
We are going to start by letting him fall asleep in the car seat, then transferring him to just the crib and see how that goes. We also have the wedge so he is in the incline. We are both scared to do this since he has been sleeping through the night, we are scared to mess with it. We are putting off the inevitable, and I know the longer we wait, the worse it will be.

Sometimes it just takes time...DS was first only sleeping in his car seat! Then, the bassinett forever and then finally around 4-5mo the crib!

Re: I paid all this money for a nice crib.....
only advice is to keep putting him in it.. i did that with Olivia and she finally goes in it now.. every nap stick with it .. try playing music in his room when he naps that can help. or rub his back or hand so he knows your there.

Re: I paid all this money for a nice crib.....
Thanks everyone
I am glad to know I am not the only one going through this. I do have the carseat in the crib at night but I do not consider that sleeping in his crib.
I am going to try some of the things you suggested and see how it goes. I really should be trying hard now since I have to go back to work in 4 weeks and should deal with the sleepless nights now.
