I really hate having to make decisions
I know I posted about this before but I am so torn on what to do.
There are so many pros and cons to moving back to SC or staying here in NY. I just don't know which way to go.
I never wanted to move back to begin with. If it wasn't for my MIL telling us how miserable she was down there, we would still be there.
Now, my DH has a great job here but I have no job (and am pretty depressed about it) and our housing situation stinks.
Next week DH has a phone interview with his old company in SC for the same position.
I said if they offer you what they offered you when we were leaving, we take it and move. He doesn't know what he wants because all his family is back up here so we will be alone down there.
I know many of you have moved without family and are happy.
Our life will be better down there. 1) I can definitely get a teaching job even after the year starts I'm sure I can get something. 2) He will have a decent salary and a job he was at. 3) Our house is gorgeous and our mortgage is minimal. 4) I love the southern weather!
The only con is family.
Ughhh....I hate this! Ok vent over...thanks I had to get it out because it is eating me up inside.

Re: I really hate having to make decisions
hmmm...i know it may be hard to be on an island of your own w/o family...but we moved from Brooklyn to PA and that was basically our situation.
Granted we are just over an hour drive to bensonhurst where MIL is, and an hour and half to my parents in Canarsie from where we are, but we had no one out here and we did just fine.
It was the best thing we did!

Re: I really hate having to make decisions
I actually just pulled up some old posts. And I read your situation.
I said to him, if you don't want to be so far away why don't we research areas closer to NY that we can both get a job and have decent housing.
His response is, why would we move to a new area again when we have a house and friends in SC?
My thinking was if we can find a place in between as a compromise. But in his mind its either SC or NY.
His parents do a lot for us in terms of watching the kids and helping out - but I don't know if that is a reason to stay?

Re: I really hate having to make decisions
tough decision to make.....DH & I just got married and b/c of his job there is NO way we can move out of state for another decade or so. If we could, I know I would. I love the island, I love NY but I know that we can never have the life style like we want as long as we are here on the island. Its just to $$$$!!! My family is very small, a sister & her family and DH's family. It would break my heart to leave all of them but w/the ease in which we would live $$$$ some where else, we could afford to visit multiple times a year.
Good Luck!

Re: I really hate having to make decisions
Family is very important to me. I want my kids to grow up around grandparents, aunts, uncle and cousins the way I did. For that reason although I know we could have everything and anything if we moved out of state, it's just not worth it to me.
That being said, if you feel financially the best thing for your family is to move back to SC and being away from family is ok with you, than that is what you should do.
It is a tough decision. DH and I thought about it and get sick when we see family/friends who live out of state and how easy they have it after leaving NY. But ultimately DH is a cop here and in the long run staying here is the best decision for us for right now. We know once he retires and our kids our out of HS, we are gone.

Re: I really hate having to make decisions
while it can be hard leaving family, its not fair to lower your standard of living to live near them. Fact is you can get sooo much more for yourself and your family living down in SC. everything is cheaper and more reasonably priced. You can live better on 1/3 the amount of money you make here. If moving is whats best for you guys, then you should do it. best of luck!!
