I really hoped we would have a place to post beauty questions...

I am now going to vent about my hair because if I don't I will cry. I keep it short - it is wavy and fine. Every single hairdresser I've had tells me what beautiful hair I have and how easy it is to work with....and then they cut it off! Humidity makes it look really cute if it's cut right. The real problem is it grows fast and it doesn't grow in all areas at the same rate. If I go in 5 weeks and say trim it, it never comes out the same as the previous time. I have to explain each and every time exactly how I need it. I don't go more often than that because I get it colored at the same time and it gets freaking expensive. I can't find one hairdresser who is consistent with the cut. I had a great cut in March. I went back in mid-April for a trim and explained I wanted exactly the same cut. She messed it up. I just went the other day with actual photos I took in March of the haircut she herself gave me and it's the worse cut I ever got!!! I know this woman personally and have been going to her salon for two years now. I have to find someone new. I am so upset and I have a wedding to go to in 2 weeks. She cut the back too short on top and it sticks up like a peacock. The rest of the back is also too short. And funny how one of the pictures I showed her had my head turned to the side and she could see the profile. Thank God the front looks really nice. I'm going to sit against the wall at the wedding and not turn my head.Chat Icon

I've been to NuBest in the past and I figured if I pay a lot I will get a good cut. I wasn't happy with the factory environment in there.
I stay with each hairdresser for at least a year so they can get to know me and then I end up switching when a disaster happens. Any suggestions? Can anyone recommend someone who is willing to follow suggestions and works well on short hair without cutting it all off. What happens to women when they get a scissors in their hands? I tip really well, so that's not it!

Thanks for letting me spill my guts, and please tell me if you know someone good. Someone told me to try Lord and Taylor in Manhasset. Has anyone ever been to their hair salon there?

I would totally stay away from Nubest. I had been going there for years (same girl) but, the atmosphere there and the work product has changed. Its like a factory (as you say) and I really think the quality has gone down. They are always in a rush, cut way too much and the customer service is the WORST. I went there last June for a hair cut and didn't get my hair cut again until two weeks ago. YES - ONE YEAR LATER that is HOW SHORT and how awful the hair cut was. I will NEVER go there again.

On another note, I've always gotten manicures and pedicures there with my mom - last summer I stopped going. They are the WORST - as with the rest of the salon - their customer service is terrible.

Anyway, sorry I couldn't be more help - just wanted to steer you clear of nubest!

Re: I really hoped we would have a place to post beauty questions...

my hair girl is in queens and I love her. She was the owner. I was going to her for over 10 years. the reason I stopped because I moved to FL. My mom still goes to her.

My hair is naturally curly and not exactly sure of the color since i've dyed it so much.

she is amazing what she does to my hair. She would also do my hair for formal affairs and not a hair out of place. She did my hair for my wedding. I ahd it done at 8am, walked down the aisle at 4pm, partied all night long, slept with my hair done up and when I woke up the next day not a hair out of place. I fly back to FL and washed my hair on Monday. even on Monday not one piece of hair moved. She does an incredable job for formal hair do's.

for cuts she listens and if you dont like something just tell her. she knows i only like just the dead ends cut. she'll cut about an inch or 2 and show me exactly how much she cut off and ask if i want more or not.

It's a hair place in Ozone Park on the corner of sutter ave and 90th street. Her name is Karen and she is a gem

Thanks so much, but I live in Nassau, in Manhasset actually, and I wanted some place relatively close.

And do you see all the TV ads they have now? They are becoming very chi-chi (is the spelling right here?)and everyone who works in there now thinks who they are!

I haven't seen the TV Ads! UGH! I seriously wonder how this place stays in business! The last time I went there, my mom and I scheduled pedicures and specifically requested that we get them together (i.e. sitting next to each other). It was a week day and we called way in advance, confirmed on the day of and got there early. Well - they made NO EFFORT whatsoever for us to get pedicures together. In fact, they pretty much scheduled us so we wouldn't even see each other the entire time we were there- with me getting my manicure while my mom was getting her pedicure. They made no efforts at all even after I made numerous comments. I was really annoyed. Especially since I was so busy all the time and specifically allotted this as quality time with my mom Chat Icon

Anyway, just had to VENT - I hate that place! Not to mention my HORRENDOUS haircut of last june. I have super curly hair that I always keep well below my shoulders well - for some unknown reason, I walked out of there with a Jennifer Anniston cut circa 1995 - no joke! I had to blow my hair straight for 6 months!!!!!!!!

Isn't that near Bridal Reflections? Who did your hair? Please FM me her name if you don't want to post it.

Thank you.

Yes!! its across the street from it Chat Icon i was drawing a complete blank on her name (braindead moment Chat Icon ), but i had the card in my wallet- her name was Maria. She was Awesome! she spent soo much time with me, and this was in the middle of a Saturday afternoon. I got it done over a month ago, and my ends still look sooo freshly cut (its rare that i'm THAT impressed by a haircut, too)

here's a picture of it (though not one of my greatest pics, the hair looked good Chat Icon )

Your hair looked great--when you first posted that pic I thought the guy was your DH!
