I REALLY need ispiration/motivation...working out part is good, dieting not so good...

I workout 5 days a week. Either 45 minute run or elliptical OR i do a body pump class. I definitely burn a lot of calories all week.

My problem is this...

My husband is deployed. He returns on thanksgiving. I am 15 pounds heavier than i should be. I need to lose 15 and then i can put on a bathing suit without worrying about it..I booked us a trip to mexico for early december. Should be enough motivation to STOP EATING right??? I would LOVE to make his jaw drop when he returns!!

I snack a lot. My weight has not changed one ounce in a year. I've had the same damn 15 pounds to lose.

Anyone else having trouble? Can you offer advice or things that worked for you?? I would LOVE a buddy to check in with as well if anyone is interested!!
TIA!!

what kinds of things are you eating? Exercising is good, but as you are probably realizing, 90% of the equation is diet and nutrition. I track my macronutrients and it really helped me. At this point, i probably could stop tracking and just estimate but I am still working towards my goals so I stick wiht it. What does a typical day of food look like fo ryou?

I also have been maintaining the same weight and have 15 to lose!! I can be your buddy if you need one, you can check-in with me!

I find exercise helps me but only to make me look toner, the food is where I lose the weight. I am going to start using myfitnesspal to track calories.

Re: I REALLY need ispiration/motivation...working out part is good, dieting not so good...

Thanks!

OK..

here is a typical eating day for me...(I know the source of my prob is my diet..)

Breakfast..

8am-100 calorie high fiber english muffin toasted with one scrambled egg and 1 slice cheese (no butter, i use cooking spray)

gym from 10-11am

11:15 snack-cheese stick with a serving of wheat thins OR a light yoplait yogurt with 1/4 cup kashi and a diet soda

Lunch-2 slices whole wheat bread with turkey and slice of cheese OR tuna salad made with a little light mayo. One serving of baked lays

Snack-Fiber one brownie or a cereal bar or apple slickes with a teaspoon of peanut butter (natural). Sometimes a banana instead

Dinner...1 cup of chili, side salad with light ranch dressing

OR

2 pieces (6 ounces total) baked chicken with 1/2 a sweet potato and a salad or steamed veggies

Dessert-skinny cow ice cream cone OR light breyers ice cream bar (140 calories)

Sometimes (like tonight...) i will have a few baked tostitos and salsa with another diet coke to hold me over cause i'm STILL HUNGRY.

UGH..

I drink water all day long and if i have a soda i make myself drink a bottle of water after it.

I think i need to cut back on the processed snacks and add more veggies/fruit, i just have a hard time eating a lot of it...

Have you inputted it into a program to see how many calories or the breakdown of protein/fat/carbs etc?

My first recommendations would be to lose the soda. Even diet soda isn't great for you and the sweetneer can cause more cravings and cause an insulin reaction.

I would also try and ditch the wheat thins and yoplait as well as the icre cream bars for more "real" or "nutritious" choices.

I see a lot of bread products, crackers, potato chips in there as well. I'm not saying get rid of carbs but I might try to vary them a bit rather than eating mainly starches. Does that make ssense?

I have a HUGE diet soda addiction..it's terrible. I'll admit it. I need to scale it back...it's unhealthy, i hate that i am addicted to it. I will try to cut back big time on that.

What you said makes perfect sense. I know i love my carbs, lol.

The thing with me is....most of the time i am sticking to WW points even if there are a lot of carbs in there...so i am thinking its fine..but i realize that i am just plain STUCK. Weight won't budge, not one ounce. This summer has been tough too with my husband going on a deployment...i have traveled to NY a TON and had too many "cheat" days filled with pizza and beer...

I know that if i change the diet a bit and keep all else the same i can lose the weight. I will try!!! Thanks for the help...

Baysideforever..if you want to be my nutrition buddy let me know!! I would love to track all that with someone!!

I eat plenty of carbs, I just choose the least processed ones.

I found that fiber one bars (when I ate them) didn't agree with me and caused terrible bloating.

I would try to eliminate the processed foods as much as possible, the shakeup in your diet may push you past your stuck point.

I also feel amazing when I eat less processed foods, so that's an added benefit!

Re: I REALLY need ispiration/motivation...working out part is good, dieting not so good...

I was having the same problem as you, the 15 lbs I gained this past year wont come off. I work out hard 5-6 days a week and yet the scale wasn't moving! I had to make some changes in my diet the last couple of weeks, thanks to my trainer, and Lauren's (Ldrinkh20) advice! I am a HUGE snacker, it's horrible. I will be good all day and then when I get home, I snack while making dinner. So, I replaced my snacking of things like baked potato chips, or after dinner frozen yogurt to more natural options. Instead, I now eat raw veggies or a piece of fruit or a handful or nuts, but only a handful because they are high in calories!

I had to make slight alterations to my meals, cutting portions and making sure I was lowering my carbs as well. I love carbs but unfortunately they make the difference in my weight. I do still allow myself carbs, but usually unprocessed ones and I will also indulge more on a cheat day. These small changes really helped me and I actually have lost 5 lbs in the last 2 weeks. It's not easy but seeing and feeling the difference has really helped push me.
