I really need to learn this lesson...

Rule: You should ALWAYS assume that every person you invite to a birthday party WILL come.

I invited all the kids from both of Alex's classes - she has two - regular preschool in the morning, and then hebrew immersion in the afternoon.

I assumed there would be many who couldn't make it for this Sunday.

Oh how wrong I was... we have 35... THIRTY-FIVE children coming to my house on Sunday!!! And that does NOT include parents, nor does it include my own family and friends who are coming, some with their kids!!!

What the hell am I going to do???? I hired two of Alex's teachers from school to help out. She's having a "Barbie" themed party. I bought a pinata, and some face paint. Any other ideas on how to keep this from being an unmitigated disaster???

Oh my.

Craft table.
Have games ready, hot potato, musical chairs, simon says. Kids can play all at one time.

Re: I really need to learn this lesson...

I've been at parties where they break them down into groups.

They had a "scavenger hunt" broken down into groups of 8 kids. The parents (if they wanted to participate) were assigned a group. They had to different things like "Sing Happy Birthday on the video camera & send the birthday girl a good wish".

They had to strike a pose & then post as a group for a birthday photo (I was in charge of the photosChat Icon)

They had an obstacle course with hula hoops & balls.

Trying to think of what they did at other parties. One was a science theme, they had to dig for fake bones in a sand pit. The mom had paint brushes for them to do archeology (not very Barbie-ish so maybe they can look for sales...:lol).

At the end of one party, everyone gathered for the magician.

Thanks Barb... great ideas (love the archaeology one - now if only I could break my kid of the girly-girl temperment so she would be more open to something like that!)

Oh and I don't know how it is out there but here 4-5 is about the age we start to do drop offs so you might have many parents not even stay to deal with their own kid.

Yup, I've already been told by a number of parents they intend to drop off - one even asked if I could pick up her kid at HER house and then take the kid to the next birthday party after Alex's! CHUTZPAH!!! Chat Icon (this is the same kid who peed on Alex's carpet)

A craft table where they can make jewelry

Pin the ponytail on Barbie

A scavenger hunt...hide Barbie related items and have them found...

Three legged races

Potato sack races (pillowcases work too!)

Good luck!!
