I really need to vent how the marketing department is so stupd at this place I call work
my entire department is up in arms about verbage that was released to our independent business owners.
They blasted out "Buy your Convention tickets in the next ten days and you'll save money and guarantee your room"
To everyone in my department this reads as your room is guaranteed.
This is not true. The truth is they still have to go on line and book their rooms. Knowing the type of people we deal with, they will truely believe the room is guaranteed.
So my entire department went to marketing and told them it needs to be reworded and we explaiend till we were blue in the face why it needed to be changed. Their comment back was we're looking too deep into this and we should really give them credit.
I seriously wish marketing would spend a week in our shoes

i am guessing marketing thinks that "guarantee your room" means guarantee the price of the room, not the actual reservation.
i can totally see how a layperson might think that the actual room itself is guaranteed. so frustrating!! i am surprised they were not willing to work with you.

I'm in marketing, and I read it exactly as you did. Anything that I put out gets proofed by the other departments so we're all on the same page. Maybe your department can request the same form of policy? It's very frustrating to have to deal with the ramifications of someone else's work.

We got told when we tried to explain how certain things work and give some suggestions "this is not up for discussion, this is what we are doing"
It gets to a point of why bother. They wont listen to us anyway. But the verbage one is a big one because if we dont get phone calls their will be some that show up at the hotel and think they have a room and when they find out they dont we'll be the ones that get chewed out.
It's so fustrating

I am in marketing also- and we are working on a major launch
I asked the opinion of the customer service department about the packaging wording- b/c they are the ones dealing with the customers and the phone calls
the fact that they don't take your opinions into consideraton makes no sense to me!

Beth you have no idea how many times they have launched things and never told us it was launched. We'll get a call and we're like what are you talking about and then sure enough their it is.
Their is zero communication between departments here. The right hand never knows what the left hand is doing.
Like you it doesn't make sense to me, but unfortunately that is just how it is here

I read it as if I buy a ticket, I get a room.
With the rest of your explanation, I understand the true meaning, but people aren't getting the rest of the explanation..... I feel bad for whomever has to answer the phones when people start calling up and complaining, or find out that they don't have a room when they get down there...
