I really wish people would keep their opinions to themselves sometimes...VENT!
I posted earlier this month about DS being sick with a very high fever and a small cough and that the doctors weren't sure what it was. They thought maybe Roseola but he never developed the expected rash so it wasn't that.
Anyway, last night DS starts running another fever and so this morning I take him to the doctor. Sure enough, he has a double ear infection and bronchitis. The doctor thinks it's the same virus he has earlier in the month but it just didn't present itself as bronchitis then and instead lingered and well, here we are.
DS was home for 2 days earlier in the month and, of course, that means I was home with him. Now he'll be home the remainder of this week which means what? Yep! Mommy will be home with him. I'm not complaining about it AT ALL because A) I'm fortunate enough to be able to work from home when needed and B) even if I couldn't, my child will always, ALWAYS come first and I don't believe in bringing my child to daycare when he is sick and contagious.
Is it my preference that he's in daycare? No but it is what it is and I'm just grateful to have a job and will work while I can in this economy.
What am I pizzed about? I've had no less than 3 people, none of which are friends and no one from here, tell me today that the reason my child gets sick so often is because I work and he's in daycare and maybe I should look into other options so his immunity has a chance to build itself up. Well thank you very much for pointing out the obvious fact that my child is in daycare and that could be a contributing factor as to why he gets sick. Thank you for telling me how to take care of my child and what my priorities should be. Thank you for making me feel like I'm a terrible parent for working and that my child is doomed to live a childhood filled with illness because his parents need to work. Thank you for pointing out how you stayed home with your children when they were little. Thank you for making a very difficult day that much worse with your preaching and unwanted, unasked for advice and opinions. Now kindly go be an a$$hat somewhere else because I need to go take care of my sick child.
If you got this far, thank you. Vent over.

all kids get sick. I heard the same crap when i went back to work. I was on the verge of tears; when a very smart co-worker pointed out...that children always get sick more often the 1st yr they start school...it doesnt matter if that 1st year is in day care or kindergarten...your just getting it out of the way at an earlier age...so when they are in kindergarten or 1st grade their immune system is already built up and they will be able to attend school when it counts.

Exactly what I was going to say!! In order to not get sick, you have to get sick. That's how our bodies work so people should just mind their own business!!!
for having to deal with annoying people!

T - I am so sorry you had to endure such comments from these idiots today
I completely agree with Dannielle - my brother's 4 kids all were home with SIL until they attended school and guess what? It was just at an older age that they were exposed to more illness and they were sick quite often -and there were 4 of them by then - not infant age so the sickness went back and forth between all of them.
I hope Ben is feeling better and that you are too!

People are idiots. Kids build their immunity by being in daycare. Ask them where they got their medical degrees. when they say they are not doctors, say, "Oh really? Then shut the hell up!"

Sorry T, people will always have something to say. We don't do daycare because DH and I rotate our schedules around one another. There's always that person that says to us 'Gee, that sucks that you never see your DH' (Thank you Captain Obvious!) In every situation there is someone that has a comment.

Thank you everyone. I know I should not pay any mind to what these people said. It's bad enough to have to sit there with a smile on my face while my child is screaming for the whole 5 mins he has to be on the nebulizer so he doesn't get more scared. I just didn't need to hear dumbassis comments from people who really have no clue what is going on in our lives. People seriously suck sometimes.
I'm so happy to have you all to turn to. Only other parents truly understand what it's like when your child is sick.

Re: I really wish people would keep their opinions to themselves sometimes...VENT!
You know what? It's not always daycare. Kids get sick!!! Dylan had not been in daycare since last Monday. This week, we dropped him off on Monday, and by 2pm, they called to tell us he had a high fever. I highly doubt that it was something that was incubating since last Monday from daycare or that he caught it that morning and became sick so fast. When I went to pick him up, he seemed to be the only sick one. The only sign we could have seen was that he took a long nap on Sunday. I do not think that daycare was the culprit. As soon as they realized he had a fever, he was kept apart from the other kids, so I do not even know if he gave it to anyone. I did the right thing when he was sick and I feel that being in daycare (when he is well) is also the right thing for him.
