I saw a post on here the other day about babies waking @ 4.5 months
My son is up every hour after 2 a.m. I know he's not hungry b/c he is getting 30 oz. a day and cereal 2 x a day. He just started rolling over so we stopped swaddling but that was even worse. I think he is waking and then looking for us. That's the only thing I can think of. What are you doing if this is happening with your baby? It's so hard being exhausted and taking care of him and my 3.5 year old. I'd be freaking out if I was going back to work in Sept.! TIA!

Its very common...my DD was STTN since 6 weeks as soon as 4 mos came it was all over and at 10.5 months shes still waking up...There is no real reason for it. I think its just a combination of things, teething, wanting to be held, not being swaddled anymore, etc...I am trying the CIO but its so hard and my DH is not for it so we have to just deal with it.

Ha! I read it the same way!
To the OP, it's called 4 month sleep regression. From what I read online, it's because their sleep patterns are changing and becoming more like ours. So now they have cycles of sleep that are approx 45-50 min long and they wake up but don't know how to get themselves back to sleep. Adults have the same cycles, that's when you roll over or readjust your pillow, pull up the covers, etc, but we don't usually remember it because it's so brief and we can go right back to sleep. Some babies don't know how to do that at 4 months.

Re: I saw a post on here the other day about babies waking @ 4.5 months
my 4.5 month old DS just started doing the sameeeeee exact thing, he is driving us insane at night. I thought it was because he is now rolling from back to tummy while he sleeps and can't roll from tummy to back, so he gets kind of restless and wants to flip back over but he can't. In the meantime he wakes us up and gets all fussy until we pick him up and he falls back asleep.
I wonder if ignoring his tossing/fussiness if he would fall back asleep on his own? I just feel so bad bc he gets agitated.
I feel your pain, I'm so exhausted and cranky!

It's common and as pp said, "4 month sleep regression" is its name. It's when babies transition to normal sleep cycles of REM sleep. It takes time for them to learn how to fall back asleep on their own. Most babies wake after 45 min.
If your DC is waking before the 45 min, they could be overtired or undertired, depending on their mood. I would look at their wake times and adjust accordingly.
