I ran my first 2 half marathons in May and October. After my first half marathon, I got totally lazy and unmotivated for 2 months. I signed up for another one as a way to get motivated again. I totally fell off the wagon again after my second half marathon. Races definitely help keep me motivated.

I just signed up for 2 half marathons in April and May. They're 3 weeks apart. I have been sore for days after running a half marathon. Is it possible to run 2 half marathons 3 weeks apart without killing my knees and ankles? I'm not looking for a PR or anything. I just want to be able to run them both. Has anyone done this? What do you do in between the races to maintain a decent amount of miles without overdoing it?

Yes totally doable. It also qualifies you to be a half fanatic on marathon maniacs.

Yes, definitely do-able! I ran 2 that were 2 weeks apart. I ran the second one about 2 min faster than the first. I don't make a habit of it, and it was a last-minute decision, but I think you'll be fine. Just be sure to allow yourself to recover after the first one. You do not need to do any crazy mileage in-between, you will be already trained! The week after the first, maybe do some cross-training and easy running to loosen up the legs while also taking a few recovery days. When you feel you are up to it, throw in one longer run - if you are ready, maybe the weekend after do one, then taper down to a 6-8 miler the weekend before the next half. The most important thing is to listen to your body. You'll be fine, the 3 weeks between should basically be for recovery and maintenance, nothing crazy! Good luck - which half marathons?

Thanks! The April race is in CT near where I live and the one in May is the LI Half. The LI one was my first half last year and I wanted to run it again. It's not a particularly exciting course, but I thought it would be nice to go back to where my half marathon started.

Very cool! I did something similar....a 30k in Sept, then a 1/2 in Oct, then another 1/2 in Dec. Definitly keep me running. For the rest of Dec I keep my running up by aiming at completing 1000miles for 2014...& I did! It was great motivation to make time during the crazy holidays/school vacation!
