I think I am going to postpone the hysterosalpingogram
My DH has still not gone for his SA. He has a scrotal ultrasound scheduled for tomorrow. All my tests so far have come back normal. He and I discussed that I should not have anymore tests until he gets his done bc we are fairly certain the issue lies with him. Today is Day 1 of my AF and I am supposed to call to schedule it but I don't want to do something so invasive until he has his tests done!

Jen- I'm not very knowledgeable but that sounds like it makes sense!
Hopefully he will have SA soon and the will have a plan of action for you quickly!!

Re: I think I am going to postpone the hysterosalpingogram
IMO, I would get the HSG.
The hsg is not invasive. it's just an x-ray. It also increases conception chances. In fact, I want to get another one, because I conceived shortly after mine. It's an xray, with an oil based iodine solution. It makes the tiny hairs in the tubes stand up and push the sperm along....they say this can help conception for 3 cycles past the hsg.
It can also clear some built up mucus in the tubes.
However, if the hsg detects your tubes to be blocked, or uterine problems then...you will know the route you have to take.

Re: I think I am going to postpone the hysterosalpingogram
It is not invasive, but it is very uncofmortable. Having been through it I would wait for the SA- if he has no sperm or really bad quality I dont know how much it matters if your tubes are open. But redstars opinion makes sense too. Good luck with your decision.

Re: I think I am going to postpone the hysterosalpingogram
I have to agree with Pauline, it is very uncomfortable. Mine was more painful than most becuase my right tube was/is partially blocked.

This is exactly what I was thinking as I was reading Jen's thread. I think an HSG is important and I too am getting ready to go in for my second.

Re: I think I am going to postpone the hysterosalpingogram
I have to agree with getting one also. Besides the benefits Red mentioned I also would not want to push any IF procedures/treatments off for another month. Even if the issue is DH you may still need an HSG and now you will have to wait until your next cycle.
I'll admit it was a bit uncomfortable (I have a blocked tube) but nothing you can't handle
Good luck!

I also agree you should get it done. It's definitley not the most pleasant experience but it lasts for 5 minutes and then it's over and you will know more about your body.

Re: I think I am going to postpone the hysterosalpingogram
I agree with your decision to get the S/A done first, but I would still move forward with the HSG as others have said. It is very uncomfortable, for me even more so afterwards for some reason, but some words of caution: Do Not Get Freaked Out If They Tell You Your Tubes Are Blocked! I, like you, was POSITIVE that my tubes weren't blocked, and the HSG revealed that BOTH were! My OB/GYN was on vacation so after pleading with the office to give me the results, finally another doctor in the practice called me back and told me to go directly to IVF, and even then, my chances of ever conceiving would be slim. I mourned and wept so much it hurt. I researched to the point that my computer almost exploded. I found out about tubal cannulation (canalization, wire tuboplasty), booked an appt with an RE, and requested to have a prescription written for me. The RE was impressed with how much I knew and asked me where I studied (LOL). I went in for my cannulation, and they told me that my tubes were CLEAR, so either the HSG reports were not correct (my tubes were in spasm during my HSG) or they cleared out from the time of my HSG to the time of the cannulation. All I know is that I am able to do IUI now, and had I listened to that moronic, idiotic OB/GYN that had no bedside manner, I'd be so in debt right now from IVF. Sorry for making this about me, but I'm hoping my story will help others. I hope you don't go through the same. Only good that came out of it for me is that I am going to adopt now. After thinking I could never conceive on my own, DH & I fell inlove with the idea of adoption. The surgery results did not change our minds. Best of luck to you!

I agree, I would do the HSG. Regardless of the results of the SA, they are going to have you get one and it has to be done at a certain time during the month. I had mine done on my lunch hour and went back to work. It isn't as bad as it sounds.
