I think I embarrased my son this morning
...it was PARTLY his fault for not listening to me this morning.
He starts gymnastics this afternoon and since DH is picking him up from the bus stop, I wasn't sure if he would have enough time too bring him back to the apt to change. (DS wears a uniform to school)
So I put a pair of shorts and a T Shirt in his backpack and TOLD him I was doing so...
He gets on the school bus this morning and starts gesturing towards me with the T Shirt in hand mouthing "What's this for?"
I mouthed back: "It's for later..."
He says ok, but then gives the T Shirt to the bus driver... I walk over to the doors, and the bus driver tells me, "He doesn't want it..."
So I get ON the bus and remind him "Aidan, this is for gymnastics.." then quickly changed it to: "Aidan this is for GYM" (I'm not sure if gymnastics is 'uncool' for 8 year old boys)
and throw the shirt back to him.... He sat back in his seat and seemed quiet, as the bus rolled away...
There weren't THAT many kids on the bus but I fear I'm going to get reprimanded for embarrassing him in front of his friends...
[sigh] I'm no good at this transitional phase...
first underwear with trucks on them, now THIS...

Re: I think I embarrased my son this morning
My son is a little younger, he'll be 6 next month but I can so feel what you are going through. It's not easy to let them grow up. I want to keep them babies forever so they are totally happy and not caring about what the outside world thinks. Why does it have to be so hard to see them get bigger. My DS had something in his backpack yesterday about if parents want a career in the school and different positions including lunch room food servers so I half kidded him about me serving the food and he was into it So for now he's still small enough to not be embarrassed by me I guess. I wish there was a magical jar to capture this time.

If it makes you feel better, my 5 year old nephew (at the time) told his mom NOT to come on the bus, as she was climbing the steps to tell him something or give him something. He told her after school that no one else's mom comes on the bus!

Its weird bc my son will get angry with me if I'm smooching on him in front of his 'peers' but when I went on a school trip with his class, he was ALL OVER ME being a mush in front of his friends.
I'M CONFUSED!!!
hahaha.
