I think I'm starting to lose it....
I've been a complete wreck since Alexa's overdose. I don't know if I'm reading into everything now or over analyzing but I just feel like something is still not right with her..
At 20 weeks Alexa started sleeping from 7 pm until 8 or 9 am EVERY NIGHT ... straight through. A month ago she got her first cold and ended up on the nebulizer and was waking up at night so of course I would go in to nurse her, soothe her whatever.
SHe went back to sleeping well and then a few days later the prescription got messed up and she started with teh overdose and she started waking up at night and SCREAMING..... like bloody murder and we couldn't figure it out. We now know it was probably because her belly hurt from too much medicine
so she's been on the correct dosage of teh prevacid for like 9 days now and she is starting to revert back to her newborn reflux days.... SCREAMING, back arching, vomiting insane hiccups.
Last night she was awake 4 times...
I keep calling the specialists and I feel like they are blowing me off.
I don't know if the waking is teething related. How the H E L L do you know if they are teething??? SHe has been a drooly mess with her hands in her mouth for about 4 months now and STILL NO TEETH....
I don't know if this is a "normal" baby phase or a result of the overdose...
I'm just going mad over here trying to figure out what to do..
she is 7.5 months any suggestions?? I'm desperate and at a complete lost with all of this.

Re: I think I'm starting to lose it....
aww, poor Alexa.
Why not take her to another doctor for a 2nd opinion? Honestly, I know you aren't going to rest until you do so. I think its the best thing right now.
DS has never had reflux, and has been a teething mess since like 3 mos. He already has teeth though. He has never arched his back when teething. When he is "teething" bad, he is swollen in the gums badly.

Maybe the correct dosage isn't enough anymore and that's why she is going back to her old symptoms?

Re: I think I'm starting to lose it....
Hey Maria I'm gonna guess that she really is teething, given the drooling and the hands in her mouth. She's at the right age so I bet she has a few chompers trying to break through. DS got his first 2 early early early (4 months) and he had a few nights of broken sleep (where he'd normally sleep 11-12 hrs by that point). I read that elevating the crib can really help (when they lie flat the blood "pools" in the gums and it throbs more) -- so I bought these:
CRIB BLOX - they are 2 risers that elevate the head of the crib/bassinet/bed, it helps relieve lots of problems from reflux to chestiness, etc. They did the trick, Shane slept very well after that.
But of course there still could be some issue with the prevacid, even at the right dosage... I know you have very good doctors on her case, but DO NOT let them blow you off (is it the docs who are blowing or the office staff??? I feel like *most* medical practices SEEK OUT the most unhelpful, condescending, and rude receptionists/office managers -- so if they're giving you a hard time about calling I'd rip them a new one -- given that it's your BABY who's suffering.)

I knew it was teething because when I put my finger in their mouths, I could feel the little tooth popping up. You could try giving her some tylenol before she goes to bed and see if that makes a difference.
DS got his first tooth at 7.5 months.

i would say if she seems fine during the day and is waking up at night, she's probably ready for you to try CIO again, but if she's arching her back and hiccuping/vomiting at night, it's probably reflux related. what's happening to her at night? does she nurse and go right back to sleep or is she up up? how are her naps? it wouldn't hurt to see another specialist and voice your concerns to get a 2nd opinion.
big hugs for you and for lexi the diva

We are in sleeping hell all day long again. No naps... if she does naps its 20 min and she wakes up screaming and at night she wakes up anywhere from every 20 min to 2 hours. Last week while I was at work and DH put her to bed she woke up 7 times in 4 hours!!!

Re: I think I'm starting to lose it....
Poor baby
I dont know what to say about the Overdose.. but I agree about a second opinion.
the drooling mess.. well that i know AJ had for months and months. She got her first tooth around 9months i guess. and she drooled like a drunk since 3months. So I guess its just a thing. I used to have to send two pairs of clothes and 3 bibs to daycare cause she'd drool so bad!
When I thought a tooth was coming in she'd get so angry and fussy. but nothing came. They told me it was still 'teething' just not breaking through. That was at 5months and she didnt get it really in until 9mo!

Re: I think I'm starting to lose it....
oh my goodness.... you need help!! come to chicago and we'll straighten her out
but in all seriousness....def work on helping her feel better during the day so you can start re-tackling her naps and night time sleep...sounds like it's all inter-related. you are NOT over analyzing this, it does sound like she is all messed up and isn't ready for CIO again...not yet at least...major hugs mama i know you must be exhausted and stressed out....running your businesses and taking care of lexi is a full time job x 4!!

Have you asked the dr if she could perhaps need her dosage increased for weight gain? It sounds like she may need a little boost.

Re: I think I'm starting to lose it....
In my professional opinion I don't think it's repercussions for the overdose. I can't guarantee it but I don't think it is.
Teething is hell and you honestly never really know for sure until you kind of see the bulge or the white coming through and even then you can't be sure that's what they're fussy about. When we just can't figure it out we give Tylenol or Motrin before bed.
DS is 10 months and still a nutso with his sleep. I never know if I'm coming or going with him.

Re: I think I'm starting to lose it....
Maria, I'm sooo sorry you are going through this...it is soo hard..I would definitely get a second opinion as the girls suggested...G has reflux too and recently we had to increase her dose due to her weight gain and she hasn't cut any teeth either AND she is being fussier with naps and bedtime since this is the time they start having separation anxiety when you leave them...last week we were at the dr's office 2x because she was visibly miserable and hiccuping and spitting up more and sleeping bad...they increased her axid and she seems to be doing a bit better...but def follow your instincts and don't let the dr's brush you off..its easy for them to say go home and relax..they are not watching your daughter suffer on a daily basis...do what you have to to get her comfortable again...many hugs and good luck..keep us posted on little Lexi..I hope to here she is feeling better very soon...

Re: I think I'm starting to lose it....
Well, if it makes you feel better, my DS has been the same way the past two days. I know for sure it is teething, since he already has one bottom tooth and I'm guessing the next one is coming really soon. He has been napping great and sleeping through the night, until two days ago. Now, he will go down for a nap and wake up 20minutes later. He usually naps for 1-2hrs. At night he has been waking up screaming, and even when I pick him up he still screams. I gave him tylenol last night and a bottle. That seemed to calm him down. He is drooling like crazy and has been biting everything is site. He is also pretty cranky through the day.He also hasn't been eating good.
If you are still worried, I would call the doctor until they agree to see you. If not, find a new doctor.

Re: I think I'm starting to lose it....
I can't say for sure if it's teething, but DS also started waking up in the middle of the night, screaming, like he was in a lot of pain. It took me a few minutes just to get him to stop screaming, and then I had to rock him back to sleep. This went on for about a week.
He has one tooth on the bottom, and I knew the one next to it was coming thru, but I didn't think that was causing it.
A few days later, I realized all 4 top teeth are coming in as well.
So it could be teething. I hope that's the case, and nothing more serious. But trust your instincts...if you feel something is wrong, tell the doctor.

Thanks makes me feel a little better... SOunds like Alexa but Tylenol doesn't do a darn thing!
Ughhh I wish I wasn't getting so much conflicting advice from Dr.s. One says teh overdose was VERY HIGH and SUPER Serious... the other says ots not a big deal...
***???? Seriously its enough to drive you insane...
Plus the vomiting and back arching my once happy little girl is miserable
