I think it's a lost cause...
I've contacted sooooo many places between here in NC and FLA and they all say you need at least 1 confirmed Catholic to be a Godparent, and proof from their church. It doesn't look like I'm going to be able to have my little one baptized?
And everyone is saying it's too late for my sister to get Confirmed this year it would have to be next year. I want my baby Baptized ASAP, I can't wait until next summer.
Thanks for letting me vent again!

Re: I think it's a lost cause...
I am Godmother to 3 children and not once was I ever asked for any proof ever. No one even asked if I was catholic. My godmother is actually Jewish.
In one case the Godfather wasn’t able to make it (he's active duty) and his 14 y/o brother stood in his place. Maybe my church is just really lenient. I'm sorry your going threw this.
Will a Catholic priest do it outside of church? Sometimes they will perform the sacrament as long as it's not actually done in church or maybe a Protestant or Eucharist church. They are still forms of Catholicism and they're usually a bit more flexible.

Re: I think it's a lost cause...
My SIL chose her cousin and cousin's DH to be her daughter's godmother. However, neither of them is catholic. So, my DH stood in as the "catholic godfather." Why not choose someone to stand in at the actual ceremony?
BTW, I am a godmommy to 3 kids and I never had to give proof of my confirmation. I did not have to provide proof of confirmation for my DS's godparents (SIL is catholic, but not confirmed).

Re: I think it's a lost cause...
You have to remember she is living in the bible belt, they take it way serious down there
I hope you can find a solution. Maybe your sister can find a place to get it done faster

I just don't get it!!!
It's not just down here though. The church we were married in, which is the same church my son was Baptized in on LI has the same rules?

Re: I think it's a lost cause...
I'm a Godmother to my nephew and to my cousin's baby...and no one ever asked which sect of christianity I followed...they only asked that I was Christian. My nephew was baptized Catholic and my cousin was baptized Lutheran.
When my son was baptized they also only asked that the God Parents were Christian...also baptized Catholic
oh...and my mom is the God Mother to my cousin who is Jewish....my mom is Catholic.

Re: I think it's a lost cause...
is your family up here on LI? if so, could you fly up and have the baptism here? that's what my aunt did for my little cousin (also my goddaughter). my other cousin (the godfather) was also on active duty so his younger brother (about 16 at the time) stood in his place. they were very lenient.
