I think last night was a little better...
DH did offer to put Cailen down, so I wound up going to bed before they did, so that may have helped, because the 1st part of Cailen's sleep routine is always 3-4 hrs long, so I got a good chunk of sleep going...
He woke up at about 1AM, I fed him, put him down, and of course he woke up and started crying... nothing was working, so I tried swaddling him, but honestly, it really felt like I was restraining him... he spent some time grunting and trying to free his arms... I let them go, and then tried again... this time it worked and he fell asleep... So I think the swaddling might have worked - BUT - when I tried again when he woke up about 3 hours later after feeding him, he wound up crying even more trying to free his arms... I gave it up and freed him again, and eventually he wound up sleeping in my arms and letting me put him down, but at that point he only slept for about an hour ata time....
oh well - I feel way more rested today though...

Re: I think last night was a little better...
I would swaddle my boys with thier arms out, and they slept that way for several months. The would always pull thier arms out anyway so I figured why not just swaddle them how they like it.
Congrats on getting some sleep though!!!!

Re: I think last night was a little better...
Bryan only liked to be swaddled the 1st week of his life! Once we got him home, both dh and I said "Forget it". We dress him in comfy PJs and let him be free. He's 3 months old now and sleeps through the night. I promise, it will get better.

We've been swaddling DS with his arms out. He's already a thumb sucker, so he'd scream bloody murder if he couldn't get at his hands.

Re: I think last night was a little better...
Your nights sound very similar to how mine used to be. His first sleep of the night was 3-4 hours long but after that he would only go for an hour or two. I know it feels like it won't get better, but it does. After months of broken sleep, DS finally hit a grove around 3.5 months and started sleeping trhough the night. And I mean 12 hours at a time. He would still occasionally wake up, sometimes 2 times a night, but we wouldn't feed him because we knew he didn't need it. Now at 6 months, we rarely hear a peep out of him once he's really asleep.

I feel for you - I really do. DD was just like that. She'd go to sleep then wake up an hour or two later, eat, then be up from like 1-3 am, then go back to sleep for 2 hours. It was hard and I didn't believe anyone when they told me it would get better- but it did, I swear!
