It is beautiful but I heard that they're not built well. I live right in that area. But people are buying them right up!

Is this the same KB Homes that used to build on Long Island? Their name was Kaufman and Broad. If it is, they didn't have the best reputation. I'd check this out.

Re: I think Martha Stewart might build my home
We went there and saw these houses.
These are some pics we took in Twin Lakes.

The houses were beautiful...BUT:
They list Twin Lakes as being in Cary (which is most desired in NC. In reality, the area is Morrisville. Still nice, but not Cary).
Also...this development is RIGHT NEAR the RDU airport. Sooooooooo noisy!!!! Planes fly SUPER low!!!
AND...there is ZERO land to these houses. And that is MOSTLY what we saw in NC. The most GORGEOUS developments you could imagine, but zero property.
The Martha houses were ehh compared to other houses we saw. Here is a link to other NC homes we visited:

Re: I think Martha Stewart might build my home
Apparently, they were in Morrisville, but the address is now Cary... but right on the edge.
Most new homes seem to be on zippo property. It would depend on the lot you would buy though.
Nevertheless, it's more than we would get in Northern VA w/ a 3 br townhome :P

Re: I think Martha Stewart might build my home
Beware of KB they aren't the greatest builder and their neighborhoods tend to go down the drain quickly. There land also tends to be less than desirable. We learned this the hard way. We have a KB home here in CO that we can't even sell. It was a huge mistake to use them, HUGE!! They promise things and don't follow through and in the declining house market dropped prices big time and our neighborhood turned completely trashy. We moved out and rent it now. So I would look and do a lot of research before buying KB. Martha Stewart has nothing but her name slapped on. Just a gimmick for them.

Re: I think Martha Stewart might build my home
When things look too good to be true, they usually are. While these are beautiful homes, there must be a catch to them. Why are they so cheap? Even for NC standard. My friend was living in CHarlotte and said that big houses like this usually go for at least 400,000, or more. Also, like someone else said, the houses are not built well. Hate to say it but, most of these big builders even around here, build houses like crap. My FIL is a builder and I have learned a lot about building a house.

$400K in Charlotte? I don't think that's average at all. I'm sure if you buy a 3000 sq ft house with tons of upgrades you could spend that much. but that is not the norm.
there is no catch. DH and I were there last year and saw it for ourselves. land is cheaper there and they have a lot of it.

House Album I forgot about the airport, you're right! it was noisy. we didn't see any other model homes but KB, not sure why. but we did see plenty of established homes (5-6 yr old homes) with a RE and they were beautiful.
and another fact we learned while visiting - Cary keeps annexing land from neighboring towns b/c it is considered more desirable to have a Cary address.
I actually like parts of Raleigh and Wake Forrest better.

Re: I think Martha Stewart might build my home
Yikes! Hmmm, okay then. I was a little leery of the price, and the fact that it could be constructed in 6 months... now I know why
As much as we want a house, I think we're actually going to rent for a year, and then buy when we know the area.
Man, those houses are so freaking cute too!
