I try not to post family stuff on here, but I am very worried about my sister
She has been experiencing a dark spot in her vision in her right eye on & off for a while. Her eye Dr dismissed it & recently it became constant. Now it is coupled with numbing of her left arm and the inability to control her hand. Her Dr sent her for an MRI and it came back as "abnormal." Her Dr referred her to a neurologist, but in the interim told her it could be either viral, bacterial or MS. Does this mean she has an infection in her brain? I know that sounds like a stupid question, but she could not get an appointment with the neurologist until next Thursday and she is going nuts trying not to think about it for a week. Of course she went to WebMD & all these awful things came up. Because her Dr was so vague, she is all over thye place trying to google.
I guess if anyone has any exxperiences or ideas that we can even begin to know what questions to ask, that would be helpful.
TIA.

her doctor needs to tell her more. He got the report and I bet a whole lot more was on there than the word "abnormal".
I'm sorry your sister is stressing over this. It's hard to wait when you know something may be wrong.
If I were your sister, I would press the doctor for more information. He/she needs to sit down with her and talk to her and be her physician not just read a report and refer her.
I wish her the best and I hope it's something that can be cleared up quickly.
Also, tell her to stay off the internet. The internet didn't go to med school.

It might not be that bad.... I was losing strength and muscle in my hand, and I was reading every possible scenario on the Internet, and I honestly thought I had a disease that would atrophy every muscle in my body (including my heart) within a year.... I was literally sick to my stomach.
At my next neurologist visit, he almost sounded apologetic when he said "It's a pinched nerve in your elbow, and we're going to have to do surgery". I was never so happy in my life... I went from a horrible disease that would kill me in a year to a simple procedure caused by a physical issue, not a disease.
That's why I try not to stress too much until I know the real answer.... It may just be a pinched nerve causing the problems....

Also, tell her to stay off the internet. The internet didn't go to med school. I know the Internet is the worst. She did press her Dr for more info & he just kept saying..the eurologist will talk to you. That made her feel worse. She asked if she could have the report to hand carry to the neurologist & to keep for her own records and they told her no! I have never heard of that! I told her maybe she needs to find a new Dr, but she cannot at least until she goes to the neurologist b/c of how her insurance works
She is in MD and I know NO ONE down there. If it were here I could at least get some good recommendations. I told her to try & find someone affiliated with Johs Hopkins, but she said she could not get an appointment with them for a month.
I hate not knowing and she is losing it.
Thanks!

I agree about the new doc.
I guess the best is that she has an appt.
Try to keep her mind off things until then.
Also, if the news is not great, tell her to get a second op asap.
eta: she is entitled to the report. Can she call the radiologist's office and get a copy?

I suggested that she call the radiology group. They are closed for the holiday and she will try again Tuesday.
I wish she were back in NY
