Re: I want a really good thermometer

I use a digital rectal one and since rectal is always the best way, it works well the times I have used it.

And, Gianna sits still for it? I just can imagine him kicking me right in the face if I tried to put anything near that area! Chat Icon

BTW - I showed James that picture of Gianna sleeping last night....he was cracking up! That is my all time favorite LIF picture! Chat Icon

I still use it on Luka! Does it like it no, but as long as I hold his legs back and keep his still with my body I get the reading, it is only 30 seconds.

I have this one and it drives me insane. I can take his temp 3-4 times within minutes and it's a different reading every time. Chat Icon

Really? Ok maybe I will have to give it a try?

Don't all the drs. use the ear one though? Those aren't as accurate?

not as accurate as rectal

Why do I need to check a rectal temperature? The rectal temperature is the most exact way to know if your child has a fever. A temperature taken in the rectum is the closest way to finding the body's true temperature. Rectal temperatures run higher than those taken in the mouth or armpit (axilla) because the rectum is warmer. The normal rectal temperature of a child is between 97° and 100° F (36.0 to 37.7° C).

Re: I want a really good thermometer

Diana.... this is the one that I use.... it's a family thermometer, and I used it last night, and today 2x and just for once today, I tried to take the reading on myself twice to see what the diff in temp was. it was only diff by .2 degrees....

Safety 1st ProGrade Complete Family Thermometer

The thing that I love about it is that it gives you readings inside of *I think* it's 5 seconds. I use the underarm part of it on Kristina.....

Re: I want a really good thermometer

We use this one and LOVE it, we still do rectal temps too. It's SUPER fast to get a reading...C whines for a second, but it's done before she knows it.

It comes with attachments for rectal, oral & underarm. It's been very accurate for us.

Re: I want a really good thermometer

I have 2 - one that they gave me at Columbia when I was discharged and another rectal one - When they gave it to me at the hospital they recommended that we get a second one just to have on hand. They suggested ANY rectal them. that can get a reading in 8 seconds or less. I have one with Elmo on it and have found it to be accurate. They never take her temperature at our peds - he asks when he sees her what temperature I got at home. He does ask that we only use rectal b.c it is the most accurate.

I got this one a while back but haven't used it yet. I like the ones that have the shorter "stick" for the rectal use -- where the butt cheeks stop it from going in too far. I was always afraid with this one that I'd push it in too far.

Marron is almost 3 and I still do rectal on her. I just put it in and then ignore it while it works -- I look her in the eyes and sing her the ABCs or something to try to distract her. It is always done in no time flat.

I have this one and the temp. always varies and one day it started beeping out of no where and wouldn't shut off. I threw it out!

I have heard good things about the Summer infant 3 in 1.
