I want to cry my eyes out!!

DD has a nasty rash all over her body (except for her arms and back), she's probably allergic to something, but WHAT? She has it on her face, legs and tummy.. I don't think it bothers her, but it bothers the heck out of me! I look at my poor child covered in red rough bumps, I just want to cry Chat Icon

We saw the ped yesterday, she suggested washing our clothes in free and clear, wash DD with Dove sensitive soap. Cut out milk and shell fish for me (I don't even eat these on a daily basis) since I am BF.
I feel HORRIBLE, could I be the person to cause her this? (MIL thinks it's something I ate)

I presume there wasn't anything obvious like a change in detergent or bathing supplies...
as for the BFing situation... you know what I would do? I would write down absolutely everything you ate for the last 4-5 days... think hard... ask your DH if need be... think about stuff you ate outside the home... drinks while shopping etc... Once you're done with the list, see if there was anything unusual... something you don't regularly consume... could be a sauce packet, could be a candy bar, could be a drink can... and elminate all of it and see if she gets better Chat Icon

Re: I want to cry my eyes out!!

I did eat a small amount of strawberry yesterday, but the rash has been there since last week, it's just not getting any better. I haven't eaten anything out of the ordinary.. most of the days I don't even have time to eat.

This makes me want to stop BF all together. But I think I'll pump and store the BM for a few days to see if there's any change.

No change in detergent, we do have dogs & cat, but they've been there since before she's born.

This just happened to us. I switched DD (18 months) yogurt from Yo baby to some Dora junk and I think the dairy change sparked excema--she was a mess the poor thing.

Re: I want to cry my eyes out!!

Could DD suddenly develop a milk allergy? We are supplementing her with Enfmil lipil.

This is just so frustrating, I feel horrible. It seems that my every emotion evolves around her well being.

Re: I want to cry my eyes out!!

My DS started having problems with eczema for the first time around this time last year. The Dermatologist told me that the change of seasons (Winter to Spring and Summer to Fall) can cause a flare up.

Did your doctor mention it could be eczema? My son's was the worst on his face.

ped's initial reaction was probably some type of allergy.. she did mention eczema and said if DD doesn't get better in the next few days, she will refer us to a derm.

It does look eczema like.

Re: I want to cry my eyes out!!

This happened to DD last month. I put on some PJs I bought her and didn't wash them and she got a terrible reaction. The ped gave us some cream and it's all gone now. Now I make sure everything I put on her I wash before hand (she is 16 months). I felt horrible but the ped told me these things happenChat Icon

Anybody can develop an allergy at any time even if they eat it everyday for x amount of years. The rash sounds like eczema to me, especially if it is dry.
It could be milk (which it most likely it and easy to cut out dairy from your diet, I had to do it for my DD and EBF for 11 months). It could also be your pets. My DD breaks out in eczema if she is around dogs for long period of time.

Just remember that if she does have a milk allergy that she would have it regardless if you BF or not. Instead of an elimination diet you would be switching formulas.

You could take her to a derm. and see what they think it is.

Awwww, hang in there and do NOT blame yourself. My DD developed a milk protein allergy at 6 weeks. I cut all dairy from my diet for two weeks, and she got all better after 2 days. I then slowly reintroduced dairy and she was fine. She's now 16 months and BFing is still going great!!!

Re: I want to cry my eyes out!!

Sounds like eczema...I would see a pediatric dermatologist...

It is not your fault that this is happening..these types of rashes happen all the time to infants...
