I want to rescue a dog.

Hi everyone....i think this is my first time posting here...so how are ya?

I love Doberman Pinchers. My dog Zombie died last year. Zombie was a Doberman..and died at 14. She was the best dog ever. Pictures of her 3 months before she died are below. I loved her.

I want to get another Doberman, but not a puppy.
Has anyone ever rescued a dog? Is it tough for the dog to get used to a home and potentially a home with kids?
This is the website i am interested in.

http://www.dru.org/

Thanks!!

Re: I want to rescue a dog.

Hi there! I am sorry to hear about Zombie.....what a beauty.

I actually prefer older rescue dogs for a variety of reasons. They are already trained most times, and their personality and charateristics have already been tested. Many rescue orgs will let you know if a dog is not good for a home with another pet/child, etc. They have pretty good evaluations b/c they want to make sure that the home they go to is a forever home.

Between DH & I we have had 13 dogs in our adult lives, 11 of which were rescues Chat Icon

Good luck & feel free to FM if you need any help during the process.
