I went to the doc today - what is 4% really???
I went to the doc today. I see a group and today I saw the one that delivered Emma. I really like him, straight shooter kinda person. He said that since this is C/S #3 there is a higher chance of complications. I am ok with the 4% risk, I think. That is still a 96% chance of having an uneventful surgery right???
He said that since I have an anterior placenta there is a chance that the placenta may have grown into the uterus at the scar tissue and it will cause bleeding... to the point where that if it doesn't stop I may need a hystorectomy. But that is a 4% chance right? I get another sono at 30 weeks to see where the placenta is and where my incision is... kinda scared about that one - KWIM.
He said it's not something I should be worrying about but as a doc that is what he thinks about and wants me to know the possibilities. He said Im young and in good health and that all should be fine. I told him just to keep me alive and I can get through the rest :)
I also found out that instead of a 1 in 800 chance of the baby having Downs from the Ultrascreen that the baby has a 1 in 10,000 chance. YAY!! and that instead of a 1 in 500 chance of spina bifida there is like a 1 in 3,000 chance. Some good news :)

I think 96% chance of all going well is fantastic! You have to look at the postive & forget the downside of things. 4% is nothing!

There are negatives and downfalls of any surgery. I wouldn't get too worked up over 4%, I'm sure everything will be wonderful and you will have a very uneventful c-section and a healthy baby and recovery.

Re: I went to the doc today - what is 4% really???
a high-risk doctor told me at 31 weeks that there was a 90% chance that my placenta had grown into my uterus and that i should expect a hysterectomy at delivery. (this is my first pregnancy, mind you)
well, one week later an mri confirmed a misdiagnosis.....i was fine.
sometimes, these doctors scare you for no good reason.
i am sure everything will be just fine....

What made them think that the placenta grew into your uterus?

There is always a percentage of complications. You never know what can happen if you try and go natural - the baby could go into distress because of scar tissue.
I do athough know someone that had 2 c/s and then the third o'natural and she was fine.

Really she had a 3rd natural? I didn't think they let people do that anymore.
