Ice Cream Party in August? Home or Out?

Yes, I realize it's only February, but I'm a planner, what can I say?

DD's Birthday is Mid-August, and for the last 3 years we've done the family and a few close friends backyard barbeque thing. This year, we thought of having a kids' party out somewhere, then a family barbeque at the end of August to celebrate all the birthdays in the month (there are 4 on DH's side alone!)

I've started to look into The Ice Cream Party Shoppe. The thing is we live in (way east) Eastern Suffolk, and so for us and a few friends, driving to Smithtown is a bit of a hike. Does anyone know of any other ice cream places that do parties??

I've also been contemplating doing a kids' ice cream party in the backyard...Is it crazy to attempt an OUTDOOR ice cream party in the middle of August? If I did, what other entertainment should I have??

I know that the cost is probably going to be about the same either way, so I'm not sure that's really a factor...I will likely be about 6 1/2 months pregnant at the time, so I don't know what's easier...packing up and schleping up the island, but not having to DO much or being at home, but having to do it ALL?

Any advice/suggestions/input is appreciated!! TIA

I've rented ice cream carts for my kids parties before (DD's is in August) and it wasn't crazy expensive and everyone loved it!

Does anyone know of any other ice cream places in Suffolk that have parties at their shop???

I know the Hershey's ice cream parlor by our house does parties- is there one by you?
