ICE- In Case of Emergency...
I found this on www.medfordcrimewatch.com website. I thought you ladies/men would be intrested!

'In Case of Emergency' initiative turns cell phones into lifelines
Paramedics will turn to a victim's cell phone for clues to that person's identity. You can make their job much easier with a simple idea that they are trying to get everyone to adopt: ICE.
"ICE" stands for In Case of Emergency.
If you add an entry in the contact list in your cell phone under ICE, with the name and phone no. of the person that the emergency services should call on your behalf, you can save them a lot of time and have your loved ones contacted quickly. All it cost you is a few moments of your time to do.
The ICE acronym allows emergency officials to quickly access the right names from a cell phone's address book. It can save valuable time, since many people identify family members only by name in their cell, making them indistinguishable from other entries.
NOTE: The campaign is not without its difficulties. Someone besides an emergency responder could call an ICE contact from a lost or stolen cell phone. And many cell phone users use password protection on their phones, and cell phones also might be damaged during a disaster or an accident. That's why people should also keep a card of emergency contacts in their wallet or purse and a medical identification bracelet or necklace pendant to direct attention to the medical I.D. card and cell phone.
Paramedics know what ICE means and they look for it immediately. You may consider placing ICE your cell phone NOW!

Re: ICE- In Case of Emergency...
I work as a paramedic and I have never turned on anyones cell-phone or used it to identify someone. It may be better for the police department or hospital, but we don't do it here. Most of the time we're just to busy. If you're so sick or hurt you can't tell me who you are then the last thing I have time to do is call someone and try to find out who you are. I'm sorry but most calls will be from pd or the hospitals

Re: ICE- In Case of Emergency...
Snopes take on ICE
Snopes basically says that officials think it's a good idea, but should not be the only form of ID or contact info. Cell phones are too easily damaged in an accident, people have them locked, and it's not always intuitive to figure out how to get to the contact list, given the thousands of different types of phones out there.
Still a good idea, though.

I was going to say the same thing, when I was in EMS and we had a situation where someone was too sick or injured to tell us personal information, then it was oh well, we don't know who this person is. Sometimes we would look for a driver's license, but thats about it. When someone's life is at stake, there is no time to be searching through cell phones and calling people.

Re: ICE- In Case of Emergency...
I am also a paramedic and the police officers and hospitals have been asking for the cell phones. They are now starting to look for this. It took a while for them to get used to the idea of checking but I have seen it done. Its hard for paramedics/emts to look for the number since if the patient cant talk we are usually busy. But keep it up!!It can only help when you are unable to speak!!
