Icy Hot
Hi ladies - does anyone know if it's safe to use Icy Hot when pregnant? I'm VERY early, but my back is in so much pain & I don't know what I can do or take...Thanks so much!

Re: Icy Hot
My ob told me not to. He said it has aspirin in it. He told me something I could use that they use on me at Physical therapy but I don't remember what it was. Sorry.

Re: Icy Hot
I just went to my OB yesterday for my growth sono and for my really bad back pain. She told me me to use Icy Hot and not a heating pad. I have had it on since 11:30 last night and still have it on and its working great. Every doctor is diffrent so i would just call yours to find out. She also told me that its ok to go to my chriopractor.

Re: Icy Hot
I had terrible back pain last week, I happened to have an appointment that day but I called the OB in the morning and asked about the Icy Hot. My Dr. told me not to use it - he said to use hot and cold compress instead.

Re: Icy Hot
I used it in my 3rd trimester on my neck and shoulder. I wouldn't overdo it but once in a while shouldn't hurt.

Re: Icy Hot
Both of my OBs told me not to use Icy Hot either - but they did recommend trying one of those non-medicated heat wraps. They warm up when you put them on your body - and get hot enough to warm the mussel but not too warm like a heating pad. Just make sure you get the non medicated ones - some of them have medications in them

I believe it's called Biofreeze? Does that sound familiar?

Re: Icy Hot
Icy Hot is no good even if your not pregnant. All icy hot does is burn the outer layer of your skin causing the blood to draw to the area. Its not really getting into the muscle and is only a short term fix for pain. I love those therma pak things.. in the red box or my HS track coach had us use flex all 454.. but dont recommend while pregnant without consulting your OB first.
eta: therma paks are those tape on things with heat rocks in them, they heat up when touch body and last about 6-8 hours and no medication in them.

Re: Icy Hot
Thanks so much ladies! You're all such a big help! I forgot about Biofreeze - I bought some from my massage therapist a few months ago & it's very similar. I'm going to compare the labels to see...
For now, though, I think that I'll give those non-medicated heat packs a try...I've never used them before, but hopefully it will help! I start off ok in the morning w/just a bit of lower back pain, but by 6pm my entire back is killing me & I can barely move for the rest of the night...Hopefully this will help because I've been pretty useless the past few days!!
