I'd had enough on the road today...(kind long)

So, I'm driving home on the LIE service road (it was moving great compared to the actual LIE, normal for a Friday afternoon) and all of a sudden, I hear a SCREEEECH next to me...now mind you, I knew that for a short time, the service road would become one lane (there are signs..this is around Jericho area) and everyone around me EXCEPT this van knew it...he almost plowed into the side of my car..I was surprised for a second, said, "whoa" and moved on...this van eventually got in front of me

Fast forward to getting to the point where I have to make a left onto another road and there he is in front of me..good thing I was paying attention because, before I knew it, there he was screeching the tires again with smoke coming out, he's almost hitting the person in front of him....then he's swerving...it was my boiling point..I pulled out the phone (with hands-free, of course) and called the number on the truck to let them know their driver was being reckless for at least 15-20 mins. on the road...he thanked me for letting him know and I said I was just concerned for the other drivers...anyone ever do something like this?

i never have, but good for you! that is what the number is there for. it's not like you want him to get into trouble, you just want the other people on the road to be safe. i think you did a great thing Chat Icon

Re: I'd had enough on the road today...(kind long)

yes, i did that a few months ago. a huge truck cut me off on sunrise highway for absolutely no reason--no turning signal, traffic was moving fine. his "trunk" was open and stuff was ready to fly out. i called the number on the truck and left a message that they could have killed me with either the swerve or the stuff in the back of the truck. i have no idea if anything ever came of it.

Yes, I have. Once when I was getting onto the LIE a huge truck flew next to me to get in front of me and forced me onto the dirt/grassy area...scared the you know what out of me...I called the number and gave them all the info!

Glad your OKChat Icon

Yes, I happen to be an avid caller to bus companies since I see so many crazy azz bus drivers driving like they're going to flip the damn bus with kids inside. You did the right thing.

Good!! Chat Icon
I did this once and the LIE as well. This van was driving recklessly and he cut me off a few times I was sooo ****** off and sure enough there was a "hows my driving" phone number and I left such a nasty message on the answering machine. It felt soooo good!

The other day, a truck was at a DEAD stop in the middle lane then pulled in front of me, who was going 40 mph and gaining speed. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon If I had my hands free on I wolud have called. I HATE when people use the middle lane to merge into traffic!!! I had to slam on my breaks to not crash into this moron!

Glad you called!!

I wish parents of teenagers would put this on their teenager's car when they start driving! (like, with their parent's phone #) You have no idea how many reckless teens I see on the road and I would just LOVE to have a word with their parents! Chat Icon Chat Icon

good for you! i did this once coming back to DC on 95-- a pickup truck driver was driving erratically, swerving, almost hitting cars, driving on the shoulder, and he appeared to be nodding off. called 911, and the trooper on the other end said that others had called too. i passed him abt a mile later and he had been pulled over. The police get "reckless irratic" driver calls all the time...best thing you can do is give the model/make & color of the car & the license plate if possible..and direction they are headed..they do look for them! Good for calling Chat Icon I do like when they have the "how am i driving" #'s on them though!

DH & I have both done that both on the LIE and on the service road. I am amazed at how crazy some of the drivers out there are.
