ideas 4, 5, 6 - limit TV

I'm trying to start a Limit TV week in my new district. In my last district, I did K-3, so it was pretty easy to give them an activity booklet with ideas, but these upper grades are a bit more finicky.

Can you give me ideas that I can develop to 4, 5, 6th graders...instead of watching TV?

are you in a specific subject area ? (Like a gym teacher might use exercise, games involving movement).

I know what subject youve taught but wasnt sure if that's what youre teaching now.

do you plan to assign projects (as a challenge) or just give random ideas ?

just trying to get a few ideas to be able to give you more feedback.

Our district had a week of no TV, I think they called it Cold TurkeyWeek. and they suggested family activities, reading, the park, outings, etc.

yes - that's what I'm thinking of...ideas for them to do instead of watching TV.

It could be in any subject or arena. younger grades are more interested in crafts, but I wanted more engaging ideas for the older ones.

thanks...hope I made it more clear (it all makes sense in my head...I forget to type it out)

Ok, here's another question Chat Icon

do you (or any teachers) plan to collect anything created during this week?

I know children really enjoy making things like board games, contraptions (like science fair type things, but more simple), maybe a little board book made of oaktag, something with software (a pwpt presentation?)
a letter to soldiers, or to a local politician requesting somthing/commending someone in their community..

I think giving children the idea that something they do "will come to life and shine" is a huge incentive, if that makes sense.

just tallying how many books they read (Which we've done) can get boring and kinda like "ok, is anyone really COUNTING that we read this many books?

hope that helps.
i'll try to think of more.

are you breaking it down by grade ? like creating a "rules" sheet?
maybe make a contest of who does the most (all things being counted equally or that can get tedious)...

ETA: even things in their own home to benefit themselves, like creating a scrapbook or photo album, cleaning out a closet and making a pile for charity, chores, etc.

I'm not collecting anything...but thanks anna...those are great ideas (writing to a soldier, etc)

I also found some projects for earth day - which shows how to make a journal from recycled materials.

There will be a raffle for any student who limits TV (all they need is parent signature to prove they limited TV in any way)
