Ideas? Creative minds needed...UPDATE: THANK YOU
UPDATED W/AN FYI.....Thanks everyone for you input and fantastic ideas. Surprisingly ACMoore carries a ton of stuff marketed specifically for diaramas. Interestingly enough Revolutionary war figures must be a popular project. I was able to buy 6 Colonial soldiers and 6 British soldiers. I could have gone all out and bought the whole set up...but...let her do the rest. Thanks again everyone for the ideas...
My daughter is making a project for school. At the last minute she changed her mind and wants to do a diarama..
Her topic...
The Battle of Lexington & Concord...
I checked Michaels in Lake Grove and surprisingly they are all out of Revolutionary war figurines....(If only life were this easy)
I dont know what to put in the box?
HELP!!!!!
Since this topic encompasses such a wide range of boards (Parenting, Crafts, Teachers, Etc) I chose to post it here...
Thanks so much for your help...

Re: Ideas? Creative minds needed...
I think I'm creative but I keep hearing about kids having to make diaramas and I am not even sure what that is . I'll be calling you when Dylan is in school. There are some great minds on the Craft board so I hope someone can help.

This is maybe a bit morbid
But what if she put a memorial type of thing in the box ??
Tombstones with some of the soldiers names, print out a background resembling a cemetary for the back of the box....Something along those lines ??

Nicholas has a bunch of plastic Revolutionary War figures I can give you 3 blue and 3 red if you want them. Any more than that and he might notice

Re: Ideas? Creative minds needed...
A cute idea I have had students do is print out photos of the people for the scene, glue the picture to manilla paper (for sturdiness) and then cut out the figures and leave a little tab to glue down. Let me see if I can find a picture. steps

Re: Ideas? Creative minds needed...
How about her constructing a bridge - to represent the North Bridge:
that went over the Concord river, that was the site of the battle.

You could buy the board game RISK and use the figurines in your project

Re: Ideas? Creative minds needed...
does she want to do it in a shoe box or have an open landscape on a piece of foam core?
You could get just a few figurines or she could make pipe cleaner figures (get some felt and fashion tri-corner hats (use hairspray to hold it in place), and place them amongst hills, the river at North Bridge and forested trees. She could focus on the revolutionaries moving their supplies when they found out ahead of time that the Red Coats were coming to get them (would involve less figurines).
You can make trees easily by getting straight twigs and either using green tissue paper for the leaves or you can die/color cotton balls. Hot glue them to the base to stand up straight.
just a thought, but what about getting Lego people?
