Ideas for a Salad
We are going to my cousins for Yum kippor this weekend and I am in charge of making a salad.
I was planning on doing Romaine lettuce, Red Peppers, Cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, walnuts, cranberries, and Gorgonzola or Blue Cheese.
What else should I add?
Thanks, Scott

Re: Ideas for a Salad
Hi Scott,
The mix sounds good, the only think i would add is maybe some red onion, it will cut the sweetness of the the cranberries and tomatoes. A Balsamic Vinaigrette would go nice with it.

They are not in anyway shape or form kosher are they? Even some people who are not kosher will not mix dairy and meat within the same meal.

Re: Ideas for a Salad
I agree about the red onions. Otherwise, it sounds perfect! Oh also for that type of salad (sweet/tangy) I like my cucumbers peeled. I think the texture of the cucumber peel competes with the other ingredients such as the walnuts and cranberries.

Re: Ideas for a Salad
Apples, diced very small, go well with walnuts and cranberries. Im not sure how well they would go with some of the other ingredients.

Re: Ideas for a Salad
actually, if you remove the tomatoes, I think a mustard dressing with orange zest and juice would be perfect with that
whisk about 2T mustard with the zest of an orange and salt. Add about a 1/2 cup of orange juice. then slowly wisk in a fruity olive oil and add to salad....
also, if you're using dried cranberries, you can rehydrate them by putting them in a dish with orange juice and nuking them for a min or 2..... quite yum......
