Ideas for Lancaster

DH and I are taking a trip to Lancaster soon and was hoping I could get some recommendations of what to do and where to eat (besides outlet mall shopping, not really going for that.)

TIA!

Re: Ideas for Lancaster

We used to go all the time when I was a kid, but I haven't gone in years.

I used to love going to the Sturgis Pretzel Factory and to the Herrs potato chip factory.

My favorite restaurant was called Zinns. It had a mini golf course and a playground outside. I think it may have closed though. Chat Icon

I also remember that there were a couple of well-known good buffets, although I can't remember their names.

Otherwise, we did a lot of driving around and going to all the little shops and antique shops. I used to collect these straw dolls from all my trips.

Re: Ideas for Lancaster

DH and I did a weekend there a couple years ago in the fall. It was nice. We stopped in Hershey on the way and did the whole Chocolate World tour. That's always good if you like chocolate :) We did the predictable tour of the Amish Village (brochures at every hotel). We really enjoyed the smorgasbords at The Bird-in-Hand Family Restaurant and at the Willow Valley Resort. Bird-in-Hand is really good. It's also right near this indoor market that I love where they sell a lot of Amish made products (food, woodwork, quilts, etc). The Willow Valley Resort I had stayed at as a kid with my family so we went there so I could relive the great buffet dinners I remembered having there. If you go there just be careful to go to the big restaurant. They also have a small buffet room that is not worth the trip. We also did an afternoon at the Stasburg Railroad. You can take an old fashioned train ride through Pennsylvania Dutch country. Quiet and relaxing. That's about it. We did the Tanger Outlet thing for a few hours too so that kind of rounded out our trip. Hope this helps!

I haven't been to Lancaster in years, but when we went, we spent time at the Anderson Pretzel Factory, the Amish Village, Hershey Park, and the outlets. One of the buffet restaurants that my family really liked was Millers. There was a bakery attached to the restaurant which was very good. My parents still get a chocolate pecan pie shipped from there for Thanksgiving.

kitchen Kettle village is a lot of fun. I go to Lancaster once a year with DH's fam. It's a dry town, no wine, beer, etc.

It's kind of boring.

I go with DH's family every year too. It does get boring at night, everything closes by 8 (even a lot of the restaurants).

We usually spend the days shopping in town and go out for dinner. At the end of our trip we hit the outlets. We always stay at the same place b/c it is not in the more congested area, it is clean and cheap - Traveler's Rest. For dinner, we've eaten at 2 really nice restaurants, the Log Cabin Restaurant and Paul Reveres. I think they may be just outside Lancaster but not too far and both very good. And we always take a trip to Lapp's family farm - delicious home made ice cream!
