Ideas for party desserts?
I am throwing a desserts and drinks party at our place for DH's birthday (we are going out to dinner first). We will probably have 10 people over. I want to serve a variety of desserts so people aren't stuck just eating one type of cake. I was going to make rice krispy bars and maybe this very simple sponge cake that works well as a finger food when cut up. What other things should I think about making or buying?

something interactive is fun like fondue, make your own smores, or something a la mode (where they can add their own whatever - ice cream, whipped cream, syrup, etc)
you can get those chocolate cups to put liquor in
something light like strawberries with option of some whipped cream

Re: Ideas for party desserts?
Ok, I figured out what to do! First, I am doing rice krispy bars because everyone loves those. Then I am making a simple Duncan Hines cake with icing because I need to put candles in something... then I am getting from a local chinese bakery a bunch of little pastries and making a tiny vienesse display! I am getting some fruit tartes, small cheesecakes, eclairs and mousse cakes. They are all tiny, no bigger than a few inches, and I am going to display them on various plates and stands on the table! The chinese bakery near me sells them for about $1 each, so I can spend about $15-20 and get a nice selection!

Re: Ideas for party desserts?
we just had a huge formal dinner party... MIL brought a gorgeous cake... and I made pudding!
Not box pudding... from scratch... you can make all sorts of exotic flavors...
coconut (use 1/2 milk and 1/2 coconut milk and add shredded coconut)
saffron (milk about a 1/2 teaspoon crushed saffron, a dash of rosewater, and chopped pistachios)
traditional chocolate (cocoa powder, and then to finish it off, a handful of chocolate chips)
recipe is simple:
put 1/3 cup of cornstarch in a pan with about 1/3 cup sugar and a pinch of salt.... heat and stir to combine... add about 4 cups milk (start with 3, see how it thickens, and add more if it's still too thick). (For chocolate, start the pan with cornstarch, cocoa and sugar.)
always use whole milk

What about a chocolate fondue?
I was going to say the same thing. You could serve it with graham crackers, strawberries, bananas, pound cake, rice krispie treats, brownies, pretzels...the choices are endless. Plus there's all these little bite size pieces of food for people that don't want to dip.
