Re: IEP Diploma (HS TEachers) ??

An IEP diploma is awarded when a student in special education has fulfilled his/her goals according to his/her IEP and whatever other requirements of the building. My school requires a certain amount of seat time in order to award an IEP diploma. Students who take these have failed to pass their regents for a regents diploma or their RCTs for a local diploma. A student with an IEP can be awarded a regents or local diploma however, if they pass the appropriate tests. hth.

I teach students who get an IEP diploma. Its more a life skills class and its really just a piece of paper that says they graduated high school. The students in my class have a range of disabilities, but almost all are in the mental retardation range. The training they get in school emphasizes vocational skills and eventually, they receive job coaching and vocational training. We have students who have gotten their diploma when they are 18 with their class and then return for the next 3 years until they are 21 because they are eligible until they are 21.

I agree with this. This is how my school does the IEP diploma. There are only a handful of students in my school that receive an IEP diploma. A majority of the special education students receive either a local or a REgents diploma.
