If a non-family member is in the hospital...help for devastated friend

...are they allowed to say no outside visitors allowed? I am guessing yes and also assuming the nurses are not allowed to give out info. can someone tell me if they can or cant?

One of my mother's oldest friends ended up getting emergency bypass surgery last week and her DH has always been an azz and is not giving anyone info or is giving bad info (told someone else she was in one hospital and she's in another) and my Mother is devastated. All he told my Mother is that she has pneumonia now which is definitely not a good sign right after heart surgery. And she's going on a trip in 3 days and is afraid her friend wont make it. Any thoughts of what she can do, if anything?

TIA

Show up at the hospital and say she is the friends sister.

She wont get arrested.

They can only say no outside visitors if the son is her power of attorney and the mother is not able to make decisions for herself. He would specifically have to ask the security station to keep people away.

My MIL did this for my FIL when his sister was calling up to get information about him and trying to pose as my MIL. There was a notation on his 'file' at the security desk, and all visitors had to give ID. If the person coming in was the person my MIL named, she was turned away.

I would just go up there to visit during normal visiting hours if I were your mother. She'd probably get up to see her.

I agree. If your mom knows the hospital she can call the information desk at the hospital for the visiting hours.

She can show up during visiting hours and just say the name of the person she is there to see and they will just give her the room number.

Whenever my grandmother was in the hospital I could call and just say "Hi, my name is .... I am [grandma's name] granddaughter. I believe her room may have been moved, can you please transfer me to her room." And they would patch me right over which means your mom could possibly talk to her friend on the phone and get the story.
