if alcohol really burns off when cooked, would you give your DC ..
the other day i made shepards pie and put about 1/2 bottle of guinness beer in the ground beef to add depth of flavor. tomorrow, i will prob make a Bolognese and add a little red wine. i normally like to give my dd a taste of whatever we eat but I didnt give the shepards pie b.c of the beer.
My question is, is it technically ok to give your child something that was cooked with 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup of alcohol? does alcohol really burn off when cooked? what about the bolognese sauce made with a little bit of red wine (like 1/4 cup)?
keep in mind, i normally cook with the intention that my dd will eat it, so i make everything as healthy as possible or portion out a serving for her before adding salt etc..
tia!!

I bet it is really fine but I would not do it b/c there are enough other foods for them to try without chancing that the alcohol could do something. That's also how I feel about having 1-2 drinks while pregnant. Probably fine but there is not a reason to do it.

I think any chef would tell you the alcohol definately burns off. I would give it without a second thought.

Yes! I would make penne ala vodka all the time when I was pregnant and ate it. I would do the same with my baby. Just keep the portion of alcohol on the smaller side ( but it literally all burns off)!

I would give it to DD but I'd cook it a little hotter and a little longer to ensure the alcohol burns off.

It should be fine. I would let your little one eat it. FYI- most alcohol will burn off but not all:

Alcohol burns off when cooked, I'd have no problem serving it to my child.

Re: if alcohol really burns off when cooked, would you give your DC ..
My kids have eaten a loooot of foods with alcohol 'in them' - marsala, vodka, sherry, cognac, white wine, red wine, beer.. I've never seen a challenge with it provided the alcohol is 'cooked. I certainly wouldn't give them vodka soaked watermelon or babarum..
But.. then again.. my parents started allowing me a small bit of wine with supper when I was about 8.. and a demitasse on holidays around the same time so I might not be the best judge!

ITA.
I specifically asked this question to restaurant when I was PG with DS.
I always thought the alcohol was burned off but when I asked I was told they could not guarantee ALL the alcohol would be gone.

Re: if alcohol really burns off when cooked, would you give your DC ..
I thought alcohol only burned off when it was cooked over a high flame but I could be wrong. I would think adding guinness to the shepherds pie would not be burning it off but again I could be wrong. I would not do it but I am pretty nervous about things like that.

Re: if alcohol really burns off when cooked, would you give your DC ..
I cook with alcohol (tomato sauce, certain chicken dishes, etc.) and I feed everything to my DD. When you pour the alcohol in the pan and you see all the instant steam and hear that sizzle........it's all the alcohol burning away. Even if there were a trace amount of alcohol left in the dish spread out over an entire dish the chance of it being anything significant in one serving is minute. I wouldn't worry about it.
