If both parents work...how do you handle childcare of school age children?
When the kids are in elementary school and both parents work, what are the options for before/after school care?
What do you do?

My step children go to Catholic school and sometimes attend Before Care and/or After Care at the school if necessary. The after care is used more often though.
When DD#1 and #2 are elementary school age, DH and I will adjust our schedules so I can get them off to school and DH can pick them up when they are done. We are lucky that our jobs give us the ability to work off hours if needed.

i work in a school and my district has a before and after care program. you have to pay for it... but its not crazy expensive. they do games with the kids, give them a snack, time to do their homework, etc... and the kids don't have to go anywhere- its right in their own school. it starts at like 7 AM i think, and then goes up until 6 PM after school... its a great program! i think most districts have something like this, since its a common problem

When the time comes we are hoping to adjust our schedules so that one of us is able to put them on the bus in the morning. Then if my mom hasn't retired we will utilize after care in our school district until we can pick them up after work.

The plan now is to use before/after care, but my mom also lives RIGHT across the street from the middle school DS will attend, so he can just go to her place too.

AJ isnt even old enough for school yet but we're planning already. They have afterschool programs but they fill up so quick. If I can't get her in that then I will use the daycare I use now. They have aftercare pick up from the school to their place.
We will never be able to leave early to pick her up ... ever.
