If I am still on the fence about breast feeding should I just rent a pump when the times comes?
I *think* I want to give it a try but I am nervous that it won't work out. I definetely want to give them the benefits of BM so I might pump if I just can't do the actual feeding from the breast.
I am still overwhelmed by the whole thing.

if you want to give it a try, renting a pump is the best route

I am the same, I would like to try but with twins I am trying to be realistic. At the very least I want to pump if I can so I plan on renting one after they are born. I'd hate to buy one or register for one and use it once if things don't work out, KWIM?

yes, rent one. I bought the $300+ one and it was a HUGE waste- it wasn't strong enough to actually get my supply going- I really needed a hospital grade one- I'd wait and see as you cannot return breast pumps.

I feel the same as you. I don't know if it will work out or not but I want to give it a try. Instead of buying a pump, I will be renting it from BRU.

If you're unsure about BFing, I would just rent a pump for at least the first month. If it works out, you could always buy one later.
If you're absolutely sure you want to BF, you could always buy a pump right before you deliver. You may end up needing your pump right after you come home so it would be good to have one on hand just in case. BRU will take back an unopened pump within 45 days of purchase.

I rented a hospital grade pump until I knew it was going to work out...then I bought my own.

I feel the same way. I was very gung ho about it, till I found out it was twins and with a toddler at home, I just know myself and know it will be more work then I can handle, yet I stil wanna give it a go...so my plan thus far is to just rent one and see how it goes.
Ya know my sister used a manual one and it was only $35-$40 and she said it was fine....although she only BF for like a month.

pump is an excellent idea also dont feel bad about being on the fence...I was swaying towards NOT BF until the day my DD was born then I decided that I wanted to, it just kind of came to me it was not easy at first and took me time to get used to- nearly 2 weeks! but worth it good luck

I didn't rent a pump, but I bought one about a week after they were born.

It would probably make sense to rent one. But I just wanted to add that it is so much easier to nurse, I was going to try to pump just to have a storage but I find it very hard to make time to pump.

Re: If I am still on the fence about breast feeding should I just rent a pump when the times comes?
It depends on how long you plan to breast feed/pump. A lot of my friends rented but that can add up to the price of a pump in a short amount of time. Even though the pumps are expensive I'm going to get one because I plan to breastfeed\pump as long as possible and renting one will add up to more then that. Plus, having one can come in handy for the next baby

Re: If I am still on the fence about breast feeding should I just rent a pump when the times comes?
I would wait and rent a pump. I am BFing and I went into it with the "I'll try it outlook." Well it is going well and for now it is easier for me to just breastfeed and worry about pumping a little later. I personally wanted to get into a little routine with BFing before thinking about the whole pump thing. JMO

Re: If I am still on the fence about breast feeding should I just rent a pump when the times comes?
What I was told when I thought I was BF is you shouldnt pump the first 3 weeks anyway (this was from the breastfeeding class I took at Winthrop). SO try it out first and then if you are going to stick with BFing then you can invest in a pump.

This is what I was thinking as well. I saw the rental prices in BRU and saw the price of the pump to buy.
I think I will rent for one month see how it goes and then look to buy if it is going ok.
