If I go for the 2nd c-section does that mean I may not be able to have a 3rd child?
We don't know if we want 3 yet. Haven't had the 2nd so I'm sure we will have a better idea after the 2nd arrives and we also can't afford 3 right now but that could change down the road... I guess what I'm saying is, is that I'd like to have the option and after reading over the material that the midwife gave me, it's seems that if I decide to go with the scheduled c-section that having a 3rd baby may be really risky. The material that she gave me said that if there was even a 10% chance that we weren't done that we should go for the VBAC.
I'm so confused as to what to do. Has anyone ever had 3 c-sections and it turn out okay?

Re: If I go for the 2nd c-section does that mean I may not be able to have a 3rd child?
every csection increases risks with the next because of scar tissue and the ability of the uterus to recover...
that being said, there are MANY many women who have 3, 4 csections etc.

Re: If I go for the 2nd c-section does that mean I may not be able to have a 3rd child?
I have had 3 c-sections and I am fine and have 3 healthy and happy children.
First was an "emergency" CS Second was a VBAC attempt that ended in a C/S Third was scheduled
I know PLENTY of people who have had 3, 4, 5 c-sections.
I was never told that there was a "limit" or that it was unsafe.

I am due anyday with my 3rd (will be my 3rd c-section) No complications so far and my dr sees no problems as we enter my final weeks! (knocking on wood)

I have quite a few friend's who have had 3-4 csections. I think the most important factor is to not have them too close together to give your body proper time to heal.

I've had 3 c-sections and my OB would be okay with me having more if I decided to.....It depends on scar tissue etc. I believe

Re: If I go for the 2nd c-section does that mean I may not be able to have a 3rd child?
I was advised to not have a 3rd c-section because I have a lot of scar tissue. It doesn't make the procedure more risky per se, but it does make it more difficult for the doctor and makes it take longer so that can cause complications. So it's not life threatening if I were to have a 3rd c-section.
My sister had 3 c-sections and is perfectly fine. Did not have any complications with any of them.

I have had 2 vaginal and 2 c-sections. DH and I are trying for another. My Maternal-Fetal Doc said I could have a VBAC since I delivered 2 vaginal. I think that's crazy so once we conceive scheduled c-section it will be.

I had 2 c-sections. I am done but when I had my 2nd - my OB's group (this was a Columbia Presbyterian group) said it wasn't a problem to have a 3rd. They said the more you have the more scar tissue you do have and there is an increased risk of problems but they were not discouraging me from having another csection.

I think it depends on the condition of your uterus, so it is different for each person. I had my second c-section (was supposed to be vbac but ended up being an emergency c), for my 3rd child and was not told I couldn't have more.

My mother had 3 c-sections (29,18, and 14 years ago!). She was told after #3 no more because her scar tissue was getting to be a bit much, and she was getting older, and I think she may have started getting fibroids. But she is fine and so are my brothers and me!

My mom had 3 csections and two of them were done in the 80's with a vertical incision! So it is possible!

Re: If I go for the 2nd c-section does that mean I may not be able to have a 3rd child?
As long as you don't want to be the next Michelle Duggar, it should be ok. Like the PPs said though, each section has increased risks because of scar tissue and the fact that it's major surgery.

Re: If I go for the 2nd c-section does that mean I may not be able to have a 3rd child?
My mom had CS, 2 in the 80s & 1 in 94 at the age of 38! The last one the dr did vertical bc of scar tissue but other than that everything was fine.
I hope this isn't an issue bc I just had a CS (failure to progress in labor after being induced 9 days late) and plan to have 2 more kids. My dr said I could try a vbac, but I'm thinking scheduled CS sounds good!
Honestly, I think your midwives are showing you one side of this, wear as an OB dr may show you another side. I was told failure to progress often happens in 2nd pregnancies as well...and that vbacs, even successful ones, can be very risky.

I've had 3 no problems. OB even tried to talk me out of tubal ligation, saying i might want more children, so I guess he thought more were ok.

I have a friend who had 4 c-sections. she and her husband wanted a huge family but once she got preggers with #4 her OB made her have a conversation about tying her tubes during the last section, which she did.

My ob does not have an issue with doing a 3rd csec, DH and I think we definitely want a 3rd so I've asked specifically.

I was NEVER told that I couldn't do a C for my 3rd. We are done with two, but I feel like that is something my OB would have discussed with me.
