If I put an ad on Craigslist for an Electrician...
What do I ask them for? Is there some kind of NYS certification they should have?
I need 3 outlets put in at my house... 1 of them may be tricky (in the wal over a fireplace).
I am not on Long Island, otherwise I would ask you guys for recommendations!

The should be licensed and insured in your particular town/county.

Honestly I would try to find someone through someone you know. I would worry about a total stranger entering my home. I know that's not the Q you asked but I would be very wary.

The should be licensed and insured in your particular town/county.
Yes, ask for their license #. You can then call the county and check.
