If MTA approves that new budget... my extra $100 a month goes out the window
So I was nice and happy when the new Stimulus plan allows me to deduct double of my commuting expenses. That along with the new tax cuts allowed me to take home an extra $100 a month.
Now if MTA approves this new budget with 25% rate hikes, those new savings go right out the window.
My friend said her Penn to Ronkonkoma would go up $74 dollars. I would also assume subways would go up too.

I heard the subway might go up to $2.50.
If the 25% passes - my ticket will go up to $200 and I am still in Queens for pete's sake. I am waiting for the announcement before I get my transit checks this week.

I'm praying so hard it doesn't go up. I wouldn't be able to afford getting into work every morning. How does that makes sense?!

My umlimited metro card will go up $22/month. My LIRR ticket will go up $66 a month.
My monthly commute will now be $369.
For the same or worse service.

I am so furious about this that I just sent a letter to the State Majority leader. Not that it will do any good...

It's disgusting. Monthly MTA will go from $80 to over $100. My LIRR ticked will also go up.... It’s really disheartening that middle class is getting pushed out of LI and in general. I was watching the news interview people on the LIRR last night and it literally makes me sick to hear these peoples stories, some are having to literally CHOOSE between groceries and commuting, some are thinking of selling their homes, and others were just totally breaking down. It’s really just awful.

If this goes through my commute will be $341 a month just for the LIRR. Add on a metro-card and I think I am going to throw up

It passed...that totally stinks. If I was still doing that commute, I would be completely frustrated!

How do you write off the expense? My CPA said no.

Transit checks! It reduces your overall taxable income and you get that money back every month by reimbursement.
I'll have to up my contribution every month now.
